Missy Higgins’ latest release, The Second Act, has debuted at No.1 on this week’s ARIA albums chart.
Additionally:
Singles Linkin Park’s comeback single “The Emptiness Machine” has debuted at number 27. It’s their first new single with new lead singer Emily Armstrong, and since the passing of Chester Bennington in 2017.
Albums Their 2003 album “Meteora” has reentered the top 50, at number 39.
Timberlake will serve 25 hours of community service, pay a $500 fine and lose his licence for three months as a result of a plea deal.
Country superstar Luke Combs has announced a stadium tour of Australia and New Zealand for January and February 2025.
He’ll do two shows in each of Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
It’s also interesting to note that while Ava Max’s sophomore album “Diamonds and Dancefloors” debuted and peaked at #31 on the ARIA Albums chart very early last year, none of the singles on it charted here.
Same case with Maisie Peters whose sophomore album “The Good Witch” peaked at number four (as well as touring Australia to promote the album) despite her music rarely or never receiving any radio airplay here.
Compare that with Rosa Linn who’s yet to tour Australia despite her 2022 global smash hit “SNAP” being one of the most streamed songs that year (a few months ago, it cracked 1B streams on Spotify).
But IMO the biggest disappointment was David Kushner’s debut album “The Dichotomy” failing to chart here, nor chart inside the top 50 in the US or the UK, despite it spawning the massive hit “Daylight” (Australia peak #4) as well as his breakthrough hit “Miserable Man” charting well here in January 2022 (peaking at #36).
He was due to visit Sydney and Melbourne last November but pulled the pin due to “unforeseen circumstances”. He has yet to announce if or when he’ll make it up to those cities. But I fear he could soon slide into obscurity, like others have.
During her chat on Sunrise this morning, Katy Perry announced exclusively that her next world tour would begin in Australia in June 2025.
Katy Perry’s 143 has debuted at No.2 on this week’s ARIA albums chart, ahead of her performance at the AFL Grand Final tomorrow. Keith Urban’s 11th studio album High debuted at No.3.
SODA by The Rubens is number 4 on the album chart.
I think he might well be the oldest ever singer still performing? (Frankie.Valli at 90).
Makes Mick Jagger (81) and Paul McCartney (82) seem like teenagers!
Barely lol
Officially announced at 8 am Tuesday according to an Instagram post from the band today.
Only two locations (Sydney, Melbourne) is the tip I’ve heard (multiple times too), the possibility of multiple shows in both locations though.
I had a stroll around the one of the largest independent record stores in the world yesterday (Amoeba Music in San Francisco)
It is 2,200 sq m in size (located in an old tenpin bowling alley) with about 100,000 CDs.
Also even has SACDs and reel to reel tapes too.
I could have gone ballistic, but exercised restraint and bought 5 CDs.
Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick did a live interview with the Pyjama Man this morning. He said it was not the first time he did it, he also did a pitch invasion at the Paris Olympics 100m track final and the ICC Cricket World Cup final earlier this year. The hosts also took a call from a listener named Carol, who was at the concert and saw the incident. She described the streaker as an idiot.
At the end of the interview, Fifi told the Pyjama Man that he needed to control his obsession of pitch invasions.
That’s an understatement.
Fox FM shouldn’t be giving air time to such idiots. It will only encourage more stupid stunts like that. They should be ashamed of themselves.
