ABBA’s latest release, Voyage, debuted at No.1 on ARIA albums chart and No.2 on ARIA vinyl albums chart today.
On the back of the release of Red (Taylor’s Version), Swift has twelve tracks in this week’s Top 50.
This is the fourth time Swift has held #1 on the Albums and Singles charts in the same week.
It’s not a great situation but this has been happening for a few years now. There are a lot of DJ/Producers who put out tracks using other artists but don’t credit them on the track. I think it’s wrong that they do this, but it’s not the first time. Personally, I think the artist should get first credit and the producer should be listed at the end (if at all).
kinda wild that an unimaginative cover like that won awards…
These both scenarios are the same, honestly, only in the last 15 - 20 years producers have been able to put a name on their art.
Both a producer and singer should be credited all the time.
i agree it’s shithouse and boring, barely constitutes an edit at all.
In this case, the producer is the main artist so should read Dreams - DJ DOOF DOOF (feat. X Factor contestant).
I find it quite bizarre what makes the charts or fails to make the charts sometimes.
Again this week, we have all these mouldy oldie Christmas tracks making the top 50 and so many albums tracks filling so many spots. Then you have a new release by Jessica Mauboy (which is quite good) failing to chart even though Glow is getting massive airplay on radio.
She appeared on practically every radio and television show to promote it. Jess has a high profile as an artist and mentor on The Voice and as far as I can tell she is still popular. The song doesn’t even appear in The Top 20 Aussie tracks. What went wrong?
The public seemingly just didn’t think her song was that good.
Wouldn’t this prove otherwise? Sounds more like her label going hard on promoting her when the masses have lost interest.
it’s all streaming now - which i have no issue with as it is more reflective as to what people actually listen to
This is the key point - the charts are now reflective of what people are listening to, not what people are buying. In the case that @JBar raises, it’s obviously not a song that has resonated with people, despite the promotion.
While Mariah Carey returned to number 1 in the US with All I Want for Christmas is You, in Australia she had to settle for a number 2.
Meanwhile in the UK, another Christmas parody single for charity by LadBaby has hit number 1. This year it’s a parody of the song it replaced at number 1, Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeren and Elton John. Both have also collaborated with the LadBaby duo for the charity single Sausage Rolls For Everyone. So in effect, they have replaced themselves at number 1 with a parody of themselves.
Also, at number 3 is Last Christmas by Wham.
Well she made it to #1 this week. The ARIA week goes from Friday to Thursday, so lots of plays on Friday and Saturday tipped things in her favour.
31 songs in the Top 50 are Christmas songs, including 6 in the Top 10.
This is the fourth consecutive year All I Want for Christmas is You reaches the top of ARIA singles chart, even though today’s chart is dated January 3, 2022.
Which is the problem with today’s charts, very few if any of those 31 songs would be an official “re release”, it’s pretty much anything goes with the charts today.
I could probably buy 1 million downloads of ANY song I wanted on the iTunes Store and that would probably be enough for it to top the chart.
Quite true. So many of the Christmas songs in the Top 50 are “NEW” to the chart because they’ve never charted before even though some of them were released up to 50 or 70 years ago.
It’s the playlists on Spotify or other streaming services that put them there. It’s not individuals choosing to hear that music. I was with my sister on Christmas Day so she was controlling the music were listening to. She kept choosing Christmas playlists and I heard that Mariah Carey song three times on that day without anyone specifically choosing it.
Don’t people have to stream the song for it to count for anything? I didn’t think creating a playlist meant anything on its own.
