The Dry is an excellent film. Very thrilling. Kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.
As soon as US movies return this will soon end.
Well, obviously.
That should make you happy.
Yeah as someone who works in the industry, I don’t want it to succeed.
As someone who works in the industry, it baffles me how you always seem to poo poo anybody who champions any Australian successes.
I want good stuff made here, not just anything is always my point. Nothing against these films as I haven’t seen them, but my argument is consistently that we make stuff so niche it will never commercially succeed.
A side effect of film funding / grants that are seemingly only ever permitted to be given to productions that are extremely niche with limited potential for commercial success
Yes, if you’ve ever applied for any funding source, you’ll see how ludicrous it is. They’re more interested in sexual preferences of the producers and cultural backgrounds than the concept of the project.
I was offered something through this as a VIP member. I must check it out.
According to the Sunday Telegraph, more Marvel movies could be filmed in Sydney in the next five years, including Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2 and Doctor Strange 2.

This came after The Daily Telegraph reported yesterday that Sydney’s Fox Studios had been booked out for productions until mid 2023 as more overseas movies come Down Under.
Here in the Asia-Pacific territory at least, Paramount Home Entertainment has officially taken-over from Roadshow (mostly) in distributing Miramax’s library, after they purchased 49% of the company along with beIN (51%) and here’s a sample of their artwork (which mostly follows the same that Disney → Roadshow have donw the past 20+ years on VHS/DVD when they owned/distributed Miramax):
(from JB Hi-Fi, were released in late December and some such as “Chocolat” and “Scary Movie multi-pack” are on pre-release set for late March this year. Miramax have over 700 tittles, a logistical challenge, no wonder the change-over has taken a while and as alluded to it’s not the first)
These are physically distributed in Australia by Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment under exclusive licence from Paramount (as Paramount’s home entertainment arm here closed a few years ago).
Paramount themselves (back in the US) are already licencing Miramax’s library to all broadcasters and digital/OTT. Wonder when we’ll see new FTA deals kick-in and which networks they’ll air on, once primarily Roadshow’s contracts for Miramax expire with Nine, 10 and SBS? Paramount are notoriously unpredictable and wide-spread with their rights.
It’s also a huge loss to Roadshow, who have already been losing titles over recent years since old 90s/early 2000s (and progressing) New Line Cinema (who Roadshow used to distribute when they were a seperate studio of TimeWarner) movies revert to Warner Bros. They’ll only be left with actual Village Roadshow Pictures titles and various indie production company titles - which isn’t much compared to when they handled all the New Line and Miramax libraries.
Village Roadshow will probably be the only company that isn’t a big US monolith distributing content in Australia - they’ll be the ones indies go to.
The controversy overshadowed today’s Golden Globe Awards, which were affected by occasional technical glitches when crossing to some nominees. Streaming platforms again dominated the winners list.
MGM have released quite the update of their iconic logo:
All CGI, but retaining the classic audio. A focus on the Ars Gratia Artis / Art For Art’s Sake slogan.

Columbus explained that Williams would ask to “let me play” after he did a few scripted takes, and would go on for 15 to 22 takes with his own improvised lines.
“He would sometimes go into territory that wouldn’t be appropriate for a PG-13 movie, but certainly appropriate and hilariously funny for an R-rated film,” Columbus said.
While Columbus says that the R-rated cut will never actually be released, he is not opposed to letting fans of the film see some of the footage someday.
I find it disturbing/hilarious that apparently there is a butthole version of Cats
I’d watch it purely for the LOLs
With all the trouble it took to get the Synder cut (which can attribute its release in part to how toxic the fandom is IMO), I don’t expect people will be keen to pressure studios again for these cuts.
On top of that, all of these films don’t really need Synder-cut style re-releases. Justice League I can get, it’s a blockbuster film which was actually really bad and the Synder Cut fixes a lot (but not all) of it’s issues. No offence, but who would really would want, and pay, to see Cats with the buttholes put back in (no matter how funny it may be to watch)?
If these cuts improved the film, that’s fine. But if all they do is make the film worse than it already may be, then well, don’t make the studios do it.
