Movies on TV

7mate ‘action movie Mondays’ from this Monday

(Presumably for a number of months considering the amount of titles highlighted here and based on the ‘war movies’ that ran for months).

gi joe the rise of cobra is on wednesday at 8:30pm on 9go. Was previously on 7mate not too long ago

Ocean’s franchise, The Matrix, The Lego Movie and Ready Player One are all from Warner Bros. The Matrix, The Lego Movie and Ready Player One were co-produced and distributed in Australia by Village Roadshow (The Lego Movie will be first time screening on Network 10, Ready Player One will have FTA premiere on 10 Shake).

A few FTA premieres in one week.

“Deadpool 2” and “Red Sparrow” are from Seven’s 20C Fox output and “The Meg” from their WB output.

Personal side note: Red Sparrow (which I went to Gold Class to see) was horrendously bad, very hard to stomach (graphic/torture) and was very disappointed. Just my opinion of course.

An even longer promo just aired on 7mate, titled sneak peek and included some more stars and movies such as Wesley Snipes. And it said “every week” (instead of every Monday).

“Austin Powers in Goldmember” (2002) will have its Seven premiere the next week. Was also originally licenced by Roadshow here (and according to YouTube still is) but must’ve now gone to WB also. Twas also a Nine ‘go to’.

I don’t know when it had its FTA premiere (can only access historical guides from pre-2003 or post-2006 and a listing from 2007 says “repeat”, so must’ve been 2004 or 2005). @Zampakid will know

New colour (7mate)

(with 7mate V/O too)

Main channel version

Again, both these were those 5sec non-promo promos (not promoted during the week as they used to be, but the Friday movie still is).

“Premiere”? It aired many times over the past 8 years on Seven

They no doubt are pointing out it’s a "9Go! or Nine Network premiere, rather than a FTA premiere, but as Seven and 10 do they should have chosen a better term rather than tricking viewers into thinking it’s (as subtly suggested) brand new/launch/not yet seen on TV. This view is reinforced by the V/O not mentioning the word premiere. They’ve done this multiple times before.

According to the EPGs of this Saturday and last Saturday, 10 Peach aired Red Dog and Madagascar 2 respectively. Is it the first time the former has aired on a Network 10 channel (considering it was on Nine for many years)?

Red Dog was on 10 on 29 December 2019.

It is just me or are the graphical styling/branding of those promos for 7mate and Go! look very similar with the angled lines? Just sayin’…

“Under The Tuscan Sun” (2003) promo… Same network, three different graphics packages

FTA premiere 13 years ago on Seven on Saturday July 7 back in 2007, from Seven’s old Disney output.

2020 (this Friday - 7mate version)

(with a new edit, script “a movie about renovating, with spectacular views” and V/O - 7mate one).

2016

(identical to 2014, but updated V/O end “tonight 8.30 on Seven” and graphics).

2014

(V/O by Sarah Aubrey, script “life offers you a thousand choices, all you have to do is take one, Sandra Oh and Diane Lane, in the feel good movie, Under The Tuscan Sun, coming up next on Seven”).

Seems a strange choice of movie to run on 7mate.

Not really, it was only on 7mate for markets which had AFL on the main channel.

Okay but it doesn’t change the fact that IMO, that choice of movie doesn’t exactly suit the 7mate demographic.
