Give it a rest, mate. We’ve heard you say it 50 million times already. You’ve heard the arguments for and against so many times already. We don’t need to keep having the same arguments every day.

Comparing a warm-up friendly with the World Cup is idiotic.

Yet the warm up friendly beat Ten’s programming on the main channel

Come on JBar. We know you said soccer will never rate in prime time but get on board with the rest of the country and celebrate because the Matilda’s performance has been just fantastic

I think there’s a huge difference between both the Men’s and women’s A League competitions and their respective World Cups.

As much as i wpuld like their domestic comps to rate, they sadly dont. Yet.

This compares with the previous number one program State of Origin Game 1 that had:

Wow. Over 3.6m? Very very impressive

Your point is irrelevant because the ratings for all Matilda’s games have surpassed everybody’s expectations

[quote=“scott, post:31, topic:22853, full:true”]

It has and that’s awesome. I’m amazed by the figures out today. Awesome to see.

Having said that, my point still stands. Comparing a warm-up friendly with a World Cup match is idiotic.

Despite the soccer, The Block still did well to achieve over 500,000

Meanwhile on the ABC, Q&A is the 61st most watched show ? Ouch!

[quote=“matt897, post:32, topic:22853, full:true”]

And your point is still irrelevant because the next time there is a “warm up friendly”, Ten might just have the foresight to put it on their main channel

For the next world cup held in Australia… in 2063?

Maybe 10 want to boost their total share as well. This main channel argument is dumb, as is comparing a friendly and a world cup match.

How does it compare to other totals from recent years, just for interest sake (raw ratings and/or shares)? Such as:

2016 AFL GF, 2017 Australian Open final, 2018 Comm Games Opening Ceremony, 2020 AFL GF, 2021 Wimbledon Ladies Final, Tokyo 2020 Opening Ceremony & second Sunday prime time, 2021 AFL GF, 2022 Australian Open Women’s Final and 2022 Australian Open Men’s Final.

This is going to be my last post to you on this

Yes, a World Cup final will rate higher than a
warm up friendly. An excellent observation

The main point is the popularity of the Matilda’s is so high, they were always going to rate in whatever game they are playing

Yes I think we have covered this for now

You make an excellent point Radiohead

I don’t think the final on Saturday will rate higher than Monday night’s game either because of the available tv audience

Some of the reporting today on the Matildas’ TV ratings (and there’s been a lot both articles and social media - seems to have been spearheaded by News Corp’s which poked at the AFL and NRL’s and got various loyal sports fans fired up) has actually been a bit incorrect @TV.Cynic (correct me if I’m wrong below anywhere).

Guardian story stated 2003 RU WC remains the highest since Cathy Freeman’s 8 million in 2000 Olympics, forgetting to mention the different measurement systems and the former is actully eclipsed by the 2005 Aus Open final which also did over 4 million metro and I think then Ten’s 2010 MasterChef Winner (in consolidated - the first year) also over 4 million below tennis but above rugby.

While multiple referred to Ash Barty’s final last year with quite a few throwing around “3.6m” (however I believe match broadcast metro was 2.59m rising to 3.75m with regional and 3.99m with BVOD (latter is VOZ), while Presentations 2.84m / 4.08m / 4.32m.

But this is coming from a TV-eyed / MS person of course :smile:
