A public holiday in several markets saw some results for some shows on Monday with Nine posting a 3-point win.

The Block’s reveal episode was pushed to Monday because of the NRL Grand Final. The audience of 884,000 was an easy winner for Nine despite being the lowest reveal episode result of the season. 884,000 was, however, the biggest Monday episode of 2022.

Under Investigation that followed, lost over half a million of that audience to average just under 300k. That was the same as the previous week, but well down on previous seasons.

Seven’s schedule featured the season finale of Farmer Wants a Wife though there is a reunion special tonight. The audience of 523,000 was the third best of the season and compared to the 2021 final that had 835,000 (up against the 2021 launch of The Bachelor) and 2020’s that had 923,000. The season averaged just over 500k in linear viewing though it picked up a substantial audience in catch-up. Last year’s season that ran in July averaged 708,000.

For the second consecutive Monday ABC and 10 had identical network shares. For 10, Have You Been Paying Attention? was up 35k week-on-week while The Amazing Race was steady.

ABC saw a 90k increase for Australian Story while Media Watch and Four Corners were on par with recent result. The second episode of Planet America slipped 50k to be out of the top 20 this week. Meanwhile SBS slipped 1 point week-on-week with the launch of a new season Celebrity Letters and Numbers dropping below 6 figures.

Meanwhile, Seven News had a big win at 6pm with Brisbane notable for its best result since May. That followed an afternoon where Hot Seat dropped to below 300k to a 2022 low with The Chase winning all markets except Sydney. It was only 2k ahead of The Chase’s 5pm number.

Look at the hot seat and chase gap in Melbourne. Huge driver around those news figures.

They love the chase in Victoria. However on some days they love Hot Seat also.

Those Nine News numbers don’t look good. Almost beaten by ACA. Hot Seat & Under Investigation under 300,000 on a Monday

From Nine:

  • Channel 9 takes out the top 3 programs live streamed yesterday against all broadcasters, with The Block leading the way at No.1
  • The Block recorded a Live BVOD Audience of 89,000, an increase of +24% YoY.
  • The Block completely dominated its timeslot across the 5 City Metro and East Coast and in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide
  • The Block recorded a Live + VOD BVOD Audience of 147,000 an increase of +23% YoY
  • 9News was the news bulletin of choice with Total People and all key demos in Sydney
  • A Current Affair secured the 7pm audience with Total People and all key demos across the 5 City Metro and East Coast and in Sydney
  • Under Investigation was a timeslot winner with GS + Child in Sydney and People 25-54 in Adelaide
  • TODAY was the breakfast show of choice with People 25-54, People 16-39, GS + Child across the East Coast
  • The 9Network and Channel 9 win Monday viewing

It’s painful to watch in this format. They should have made the change to two teams of two.

Nine won the east coast with Seven ahead in Adelaide and Perth. Nine also won the key demos with 10 second.

And 70k at 6:30pm. Amazing to think that Melbourne was Nine’s best market to one of Nine’s worst. I could even say Nine Adelaide performs better than Nine News Melbourne. One of the reasons Nine News could be rating bad is because of the lead-in. The Chase is 55k ahead of Hot Seat, with 144k and 89k respectively.

This is why I think Nine in Melbourne should move Nine’s Afternoon News to 5pm, and rename it “Nine News VIC First” with a logo like WA First/Tasmania, but with a image of Victoria instead of Tasmania/WA. Tasmania airs Nine News VIC First until their bulletin launches when they change to Nine Afternoon News Sydney. WIN News cuts out of Nine News VIC First at 5:30pm for WIN News or move the whole news to 9Go.

Did Celebrity Letters and Numbers get higher ratings last night than when the show was on Saturday night?

The ratings were much lower - lowest ever I believe. The last season premiered to 209k, it did fall after that depending on the competition on the night but was regularly getting well over 100k on most Saturdays.

It still feels very cheap and tacky compared to 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. They try but it’s missing the funny parts and comes off as try-hard.

They should try and incorporate some elements of 8 out of 10 Cats version into ours like the skits and other games with the letters and numbers game as supplementary games.

Proves that earlier starts benefits both late bulletins. Bury it beyond 11pm and no one gives two hoots.

So Today didn’t win any markets?

The Amazing Race Australia came fourth in Perth, even though the city featured in last night’s episode, and with the final two episodes taking place in WA.

Been saying for years that location makes little to no difference in ratings.

Today won Sydney, Sunrise and NB tied in Melbourne and Sunrise won the other three. The east coast markets were close with just a few thousand separating on the holiday.

Wow. Sunrise won Brisbane?
Wonder why 9 didn’t mention the win in Sydney in their release?
