Monday, while very competitive, was a night of two parts. While Seven and Nine drew big audiences for news, it was 10’s night after 7.30pm. Overall, Seven had a narrow victory, winning by one point in network shares, while Nine’s main channel was number one. 10’s share was its best Monday result for the year while ABC and SBS performed above their Monday averages. 10 won all key demos.

Seven News got its network off to a good start 200k ahead of Nine’s bulletin at 6pm but A Current Affair then had an easy 7pm victory to make the top 5.

Have You Been Paying Attention? was the top primetime entertainment show, up by 80k week-on-week to its best result since the season premiere. ABC had the top 7.30 combo of 7.30 plus the return of Back Roads.

MasterChef was the dominant reality format, up 35k on the previous week. The second episode of Nine’s new reality was down 10k on the launch episode that was up against The Ashes on Sunday. For Seven, Million Dollar Island was outside the top 20 fourth in the timeslot again. In 25-54 MasterChef was 6th, Rush 12th and Million Dollar Island 14th.

The start of Wimbledon didn’t help Nine much while The Tour gave SBS a boost to its best Monday share of this year’s survey.

Tom Cruise’s appearance didn’t help Sunrise on Monday with Today just 6k behind

10 did well with MasterChef and HYBPA.

No one is rushing to watch Rush on Nine.

Ouch to Seven’s Million Dollar Island.

MasterChef’s audience went up with three weeks left in the season.

Million Dollar Island failed to take advantage from another poor showing for Rush.

Why did 9Gem’s Wimbledon telecast record a zero in Perth? It was shown in Perth from 5.30pm to 8.55pm local time.

Worth noting that both Rush and M$Island were outrated by ABC’s 7.30 in the key 25-54 demo. M$I was beaten by Just For Laughs in the 9:45 timeslot.

7 News smashed Nine News in Melbourne, after Nine had a small victory on Sunday night

It is appears to be holding onto the audience it has had for the last 2-3 weeks. It has been fluctuating between 260-275k. So a very minor positivity is that it hasn’t fallen even further (like I thought it would)

This is also true, the last couple of weeks, 9 had something somewhat competitive, so even when 9 had a flop, the viewers went else’s where and not to MDI.

Nine is learning the painful lesson that Seven learnt (and arguably still learning today) years ago that when you try ‘original’ formats but actually just rip elements off existing franchises, the audiences aren’t going to be fooled. They need an established format to get them back on track.

I still think Ninja will be rebooted next year judging by the trajectory of both The Summit and Rush.

The most disappointing thing about the ratings for these new-ish formats with these reality shows is that the networks will just play it safe and resort to contrived and manufactured drama to get people invested.

totally agree

I’m predicting big changes to Nine News Melbourne next year.

They cant go on like this. The gap was 111k between 7 and 9 in the first half hour.

I actually like Rush, but presumably that’s because I like both The Amazing Race and Race Across the World. I like the premise of dumping the contestants somewhere and having them figure out where they are, although my curiosity makes me wonder how on earth they could do this. Surely the contestants aren’t blindfolded throughout the flight, so therefore must have some idea at least what country they’re in.

Crazy given how Nine News Melb was unstopped during the 2010’s.

Amazing how quickly it turned around in Melbourne. Really just started at the beginning of last year.

Kyrgios’ very late out was not good news

Yes but it’s not a new thing for Nine. They’ve had their fair share of copycat fails over that time. The Hotplate and Family Food Fight were blatant MKR rip-offs. Excess Baggage ripped-off The Biggest Loser. And even though Dancing on Ice was an original UK concept, it was still a rip-off of Dancing with the Stars. The Last Resort was like Temptation island.

And they even ripped off their own shows with Renovation Rescue from The Block, When Love Comes to Town from The Farmer Wants A Wife.

Yes. Most viewers see through the bullshit now.
