It was a big night of FTA television on Monday with the launch of the latest game show format on Nine. The Floor got off to winning start as the number one entertainment show of Monday and third overall averaging 1.17 million. It wasn’t enough, however for a win, as Seven’s took the night by one point. ABC did well to top 20% while 10 has its second best Monday of the year.

Also premiering was the 17th season of MasterChef. This year it was themed Back to Win and averaged 676k for the first episode. That was higher than all episodes of Survivor except the final and compared to the 2024 season that launched to 776k

It also went up again the third episode of Farmer Wants A Wife that took a hit with the increased competition, down 100k on the premiere last week to 833k.

ABC had its usual line up where Media Watch topped 700k for only the second time this year. That was following Australian Story and Four Corners both doing well around the 650k mark with Q+A a post 9.30 standout on 385k.

Sam Pang Tonight at the later time of 9:10pm got a 170k lift from its better lead in to almost 500k, a 6-week high. Taskmaster that followed also made the top 30 while 9-1-1: Lone Star on Seven was up 100k to 364k.

Nine had a split schedule from 8:45pm with 100% Footy (212k) plus Freddy And The Eighth live from Brisbane in NRL states plus and Footy Classified (190k)elsewhere.

Seven News had a 65k win at 6pm as Nine’s bulletin closed the gap. Tipping Point was over 800k again while Sunrise did well to average 440k.

Masterchef’s just collapsed on launch. Maybe not such a great idea to keep recycling contestants?

The Floor’s debuted pretty well, but I reckon there could be a drop off coming next episode. Seems weird to have two episodes in a week rather than once a week.

People are looking for something new but it’ll be interesting to see whether The Floor can keep the viewers.

Nine’s latest game show wiped the floor (no pun intended).

If The Floor can keep the audience, it will be Nine’s first primetime competition show success since Australian Ninja Warrior.

LAUNCH EPISODE OF THE FLOOR BECOMES HIGHEST RATING NEW SERIES

  • The Floor - Launch was the highest rating new series launch in VOZ history.

  • The Floor - Launch was Australia’s No. 1 entertainment program with Total People and all key demos, winning with Total People in all five metro markets. It was also the No. 1 program of the night with People 25-54 and the No. 1 entertainment program with People 16-39 across Australia. It registered a National Total TV Reach of 2.222 million , a Total TV National Audience of 1.171 million and a BVOD audience of 112,000.

  • 9News was the No. 1 program and No. 1 news bulletin with Total People across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. It was also the No. 1 program and No. 1 news bulletin with People 25-54 in Adelaide and Perth. The combined national bulletins achieved a National Total TV Reach of 2.206 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.400 million (up 9.1% year-on-year). On 9Now, its BVOD Audience of 128,000 was up 40.7% on the same night last year.

  • A Current Affair dominated the 7.00pm timeslot with Total People across Australia and in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 1.775 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.147 million - up 10.9% year-on-year. On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD Audience of 101,000 - up 36.5% year-on-year.

  • Tipping Point Australia was the No. 1 afternoon game show with Total People across Australia and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. It secured a National Total TV Reach of 1.502 million and a Total TV National Audience of 804,000 (up 7.6% on the same day last year). On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD Audience of 71,000 - up a massive 54.3% year-on-year.

  • 100% Footy registered a Total TV National Audience of 212,000 and a BVOD Audience of 27,000 . It was the top rating NRL magazine program nationally on Monday night.

  • Footy Classified - Monday achieved a Total TV National Audience of 190,000 and a BVOD Audience of 13,000 . In Melbourne, it achieved a Total TV Average Audience of 106,000 . It was the top rating AFL magazine program nationally on Monday night.

  • Today was the breakfast program of choice with Total People in Melbourne. It was also the preferred breakfast program with the key demographic of People 25-54 in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. It recorded a National Total TV Reach of 821,000, a Total TV National Audience of 319,000 and a BVOD audience of 31,000 .

  • The 9Network was the No. 1 Network across the 5 City Metro with Total People and all key demographics.

Decent result for DOND last night, Project seems seems to have been boosted somewhat as well with the Masterchef affect, despite the season premiere being down on last year, it’s not often these days that it outrates the news.

The Floor is new so some viewers may give it a go and slip back to Masterchef. It could also pick up viewers later in the week. Although 10 really should have launched Masterchef last week IMO to get a head start.

MasterChef was well ahead of Farmers and helped 10 to a very rare second place in the 25-54 metro demos. Long way to go though …

Is it? 25-54 is an important demo for then to sell, if they can sell any increase to marketers / agencies then why not?

It’s all a bit of spin to put it in positive light given the audience is down in overall numbers YOY, but growth is still growth.
