Easter Monday was a big night for FTA viewing. Starting with the afternoon, Seven led across most time slots into the night helping to secure the network its highest Monday share of the year at just over one third of the viewing audience.

That was seven points clear of second-placed Nine with a 26.6% share, its second lowest Monday audience of the year and down 10 from the previous Monday. 10 was third, up one to its second-best Monday of the year (after the Survivor final) while ABC slumped to its worst Monday of 2023. SBS was steady on par with its recent results.

To start prime time Seven News recorded the highest rating for any bulletin this year. It was the first time a bulletin has rated over one million since October 2022 and included a +400k result for Melbourne, also a record for the year, and almost 200k in Brisbane a 2023 high for Seven in Brisbane.

The new season of Farmer Wants a Wife then kicked off in the 7pm timeslot with 630,000 metro viewers. That compares to 576,000 in 2022, 820,000 in 2021 and 908,000 in 2020. Following was the debut of The Claremont Murders managed 442,000 that will no doubt improve in catch up viewing.

It was also a big night for Nine News with its best 6pm weekday audience of the year while A Current Affair again won the 7pm times slot. The new season of LEGO Masters drew just over the half a million mark. That is the lowest linear viewing result for the franchise so far. It compares to its season four premiere in 2022 that had 671,00 and 2021 that had 834,000. RPA that followed suffered from the lower lead it to drop 170k week-on-week to a season low.

Meanwhile on 10, I’m A Celebrity continued its season to land third at 7.30pm on par with the previous week and Sunday while winning the key 25-54 demo group. Following, the season final of Would I Lie to You missed the top 20 this week, down 50k from last Monday.

It wasn’t a good night for ABC, though ABC News did well to average over 500k. 7.30 slipped 100k from the previous week while Australian Story dropped to a season low. Media Watch was out of the schedule this week with Q+A in a slightly earlier slot but down 75k to a low point for the series.

Seven dominated all afternoon and night in Melbourne starting with the AFL, which gave a big lead-in to the news, despite the lopsided result.

The Claremont Murders mini-series had its biggest audience in Melbourne, with Sydney second and Perth (where the murders took place) coming third.

The novelty has well and truly worn off Lego Masters. The only thing keeping it afloat is its demos.

Seven won all markets except Brisbane that Nine won by 0.1. Seven’s winning margin in Sydney was 2 stretching to 18 in Perth. Seven won 25-54 from second placed 10 just ahead of Nine. Seven won 16-39 from Nine just ahead of 10. The demos were much closer than recent results. 10 Peach was notable for outrating the ABC and SBS networks in 16-39.

The breakfast numbers saw Sunrise an easy winner, though numbers were well down on usual weekday results.

Sunrise was ahead of Today by 45k while News B dropped below six figures. Extended Sunrise to 10 am outrated the earlier portion of the program while Today Extra outrated Today. Extra posted a year high audience and while at 9am also outrated TMS with a 10am start and no Perth audience.

Haven’t seen that in a while, particularly Brisbane.

Having watched some of Farmer last night, while Samantha Armytage has been extremely annoying and polarising over recent times, she is actually well suited to this show. I thought she did well.

Seven would be happy today, a great result mostly across the board yesterday, but I feel it’ll be closer tonight and tomorrow, unless Nine’s post reality shows fall with the lower lead in and Seven’s lift, Front Bar should go big in Melbourne and especially Adelaide on Wednesday at least and Seven should completely dominate Thursday and Friday, although Saturday could be closer.

Of course, but plenty of shows have been doing that figure in “the current FTA TV climate” in recent years, while Lego was at one stage up over 1m metro IIRC. So the fall is noteworthy and to others such as Seven’s delight no doubt.
