Mock Schedules

I actually thought The Great Outdoors assuming its returning could be at 8pm Thursday ( if Million Dollar Minute aired at 7pm) or 7pm Saturday.

That could actually work with that lineup

6.00PM 7NEWS

7.00PM Million Dollar Minute

7.30PM Million Dollar Minute

8.00PM The Great Outdoors (Returns to 1hr)

9.00PM Highway Patrol

9.30PM 7NEWS: Late

or for the Saturday version:

5.00PM 7NEWS @ 5

5.30PM Million Dollar Minute Rpt (Syd, Melb), Creek To Coast (Bris)

6.00PM 7NEWS

7.00PM The Great Outdoors

8.00PM Movie

I would personally like the networks to follow in 10s footsteps and screen 2 half hour game shows around the news. The Chase could easily become a bi-weekly show in primitive ( Thursday and Saturday) with Million Dollar Minute paired with either The Price Is Right or Catchphrase. Correct me if I am wrong, but one of Sevens most successful periods came in the early to mid 1990s with Family Feud and Wheel Of Fortune ( how good would it be to see that pairing again in the future).

If Seven moved The Chase to biweekly, Larry could keep his role on The Chase, and utilise James Tobin and either Simon Reeve or Sam Armytage for the other. Seven needs to better utilise their talents as costs are ever increasing. If Sam was used for say The Price Is Right, it puts her on our screens 5 nights a week, enables cross promos for other shows she might be a part of eg Fsrmer Wants A Wife etc

She is no longer at Seven; however, Sam Mac is—could he be who you’re referring to?

Considering the member is using “her” pronouns to describe Sam Armytage, I’m pretty sure they are talking about Sam Armytage.

Noted.

I was giving an example of someone who I believe is underutilised. Sam Mac would obviously be another possibility. I am sure there are others that could be contenders for one of the two game shows I suggested.

Simon Reeve got made redundant by Seven in 2020 & eventually sued Seven. Doubt he would return

Channel Nine on the Sunday of the Australian Open final

Under this proposal, the men’s final would return to being in the afternoon as was the case before 2005.

7:00am Weekend Today

10:00am Australian Open preview show

11:00am Australian Open: mixed doubles final

1:30pm Australian Open: men’s final, with presentation to follow immediately after

6:00pm Nine News

7:00pm Marred at First Sight (season premiere)

8:30pm 60 Minutes

9:30pm Nightline

10:00pm Australian Open wrap

Under this schedule, I would have Nine launch MAFS right off the Australian Open men’s final. If the tennis goes overtime, 9Gem would be used from 6:00pm onwards.

I know this will never become a reality and I would never be against the singles final returning to an afternoon slot. FWIW, the women’s final switched to being a night time match in 2009.

Ok my thoughts is if you were looking at potential cost efficiencies in the “plan” to axe 10 News+ would be to produce a 1 hour national news bulletin at 5pm with a half hour state edition at 6pm.

If it was done was done with the view that you would probably lose your audience by producing a national bulletin, you would do a main bulletin at 5pm with state stories inserted, then a half hour condensed bulletin at 6pm.

I would shuffle your schedule a little bit - from between 8:30- 9pm shows like HYBPA, Cheap Seats, Gogglebox etc, followed by 10 News, then US procedurals followed by an encore of the 6pm state based News half hour (possibly with a updated sports window which may work if you use the same sports presenter for state based at 6pm and national late news.

In my opinion, you’d be far better off revisiting a “news revolution”-style approach and reinstating a structure closer to what Ten Evening News used to be—combined with a format similar to the former CBS Evening News Plus, delivered on a state-by-state basis.

Local news should not be “windowed” inside a national bulletin. 10 needs to actively build its identity around strong local news and public affairs coverage—because this is exactly where its competitors are weakest.

Channel Nine on the NRL Grand Final Day

Assuming that The NRL announces a standalone NRLW Season, the NRL Grand Final returns to the traditional afternoon timeslot. Last time it happened was back in 2000.

7:00am — Weekend Today

10:00am — Wide World of Sports

11:00am — The Sunday NRL Footy Show

1:00pm — NRL State Championship Grand Final

3:00pm — NRL Pre-match entertainment

3:30pm — NRL Grand Final

6:00pm — Nine News

7:00pm — The Block (new episode)

8:30pm — 60 Minutes

9:30pm — Nine’s Late News

10:30pm — 100% Footy — NRL Season Wrap

Under this schedule, I would allow Nine to continue airing new episodes of The Block after the NRL match concludes. If the match goes overtime, match will continue until final siren sounds. The presentation and post match will be moved to 9Gem. (In eastern states)

For Western Australia, Wide World of Sports and the Sunday NRL Footy Show will be on 9Gem with Weekend Today on main channel. After Weekend Today finished, they will move to NRL telecast on Main channel. If the match goes overtime (past 3pm) NRL will continue on main channel + presentations and post-match talk. Perth Prime time programming is aligned with other markets.

I know this has never happened before (With Perth having delayed NRL GF coverage in 2000).
