Mock Schedules

Each affiliate would be responsible for producing a local 4:30 PM bulletin tailored to its respective broadcast area

Maybe not, but would each region really prefer a scenario where a 30-minute state bulletin abruptly switches to 15 minutes of regional news?

The only way I would do what you suggest would be trialling a 15 minute localised bulletin over the December to January period in a format something like this

Main Channel
6:00pm National Nine News
6:45pm State Matters
(WIN/NBN/9GC) Local News
7:00pm A Current Affair

9Go
7:00-7:15pm (WIN/NBN/9GC) State Matters
7:15-7:30pm (WIN/NBN/9GC) Local News

State Matters would be a state specific news program produced for each state. WIN Tasmania would have the option of producing their own edition, taking the Victorian edition at 7pm or screening the scheduled 7pm program on 9Go

My take on 7Two schedule

6.30 The Surgery Ship
7.30 Harry’s Practice (repeat)
8.00 Million Dollar Minute (repeat)
8.30 Extreme Cake Makers (repeat)
9.00 Left Off The Map (repeat)
9.30 NBC Today
10.30 Better Homes And Gardens (repeat)
12.00 Emmerdale
12.30 Coronation Street
1.30 The Great Australian Doorstep (repeat)
2.00 Weekender
2.30 Great Scenic Railway Journeys (repeat)
3.30 Left Off The Map
4.00 The Zoo (repeat)
4.30 Classic Home And Away
5.30 Escape To The Country
6.30 Bargain Hunt
7.30 Doc Martin (repeat)
8.30 A Touch Of Frost (repeat)
10.30 Murdoch Mysteries
11.30 Doc Martin (repeat)
12.30 Law And Order UK
1.30 Emmerdale (repeat)
2.00 Coronation Street (repeat)
3.00 The Bay (repeat)
4.00 The Bay (repeat)
5.00 Million Dollar Minute (repeat)
5.30 Room For Improvement (repeat)

7Two’s Day time schedules would have incorporated Emmerdale and Coronation Street into free to air networks for an afternoon entertainment for older Australians and British migrants. Episodes would have to be 6-7 weeks behind whereas BBC UKTV continues to be broadcast 1-2 weeks behind Britain similar to Fox One and 9Gem did with American soaps of Days Of Our Lives and The Young And The Restless. 7Two did show these ITV soaps more than a decade ago, but they ran out of episodes so not been on FTA TV since.

And this is for all year round?

Seven 2025 (February to November)

Sunday
6pm Seven News Local
6:30pm Seven News National
7pm SportsWorld
7:30pm 7News Spotlight
8:30pm Sunday night movie

Monday
6pm Seven News Local
6:30pm Seven News National
7pm SportsWorld
7:30pm 7News Spotlight
8pm Home and Away
8:30pm St Anna’s Medical (new Aussie medical drama)
9:30pm the new QLD based national night show with Katrina Blowers
10:30pm Seven News

Tuesday
8pm Home and Away
8:30pm Landers Lane (a new Australian family set drama set in Perth)

Wednesday
8pm Home and Away
8:30pm Punishment Follows Crime (a new Australian made police drama set in a country town)

Thursday
8pm Home and Away
8:30pm The Front Bar (AFL)
9:30pm The Front Bar (NRL)

I like the idea of more Australian drama, but I’m not convinced on dividing the 6pm news into separate local and national bulletins. Why would I watch national news on Seven when I can watch local news on Nine?

Also, I believe there will be nightly AFL panel shows (in AFL states anyway, maybe on 7mate in northern markets) on Seven next year. Probably starting anywhere between 9pm and 10.30pm each night.

By 6:30pm on Nine all of the ultra local important news has already aired and from 6:30pm it’s fluff, sport and weather. 7 on the other hand would just be starting their important national news of the night.

I cannot see 7 risking their ranking of number 1 by following the schedule you propose

No, early February 2025

I actually really like it. Move the reality junk to the multis which provides a complete point of difference. The main network then becomes really cost effective and the home of news basically. I would even be tempted to look at a nightly talk show or news program at 9:30 rather than the the front bar as suggested.

Only thing I would really look at changing is that Sunday night movie.

Thank you.

Yeah I wasn’t too set on that one. Happy to hear any suggestions?

My predictions for Seven in early February 2025
6.00 Sunrise
9.00 The Morning Show
11.00 US Sitcom repeat
11.30 Seven Morning News
12.00 Seven’s Afternoon Movie/Reality repeats in some days
1.30 Fast Ed’s Snacks For Everyday (New Australian lifestyle program)
2.00 Catchphrase UK
3.00 The Chase UK
4.00 Seven Afternoon News
5.00 The Chase Australia
6.00 Seven News
7.00 Home And Away
7.30 Australian Reality programs
8.30 US Drama
9.30 ITV Studios Drama or US Drama
10.30 The Latest: Seven News
11.00 Homicide With Ron Iddles (repeat)
12.00 Late Movie
1.30 Home Shopping
4.00 Guthy Renker Australia
4.30 NBC Today
5.30 Seven Early News

I have added new cooking show Fast Ed’s Snacks For Everyday and I have adjusted a reality shows down to one hour because commercial channels are wastings that time slots that could have been filled by other programs.

Not keen on your early evening schedule.

This is my variation to it, presuming Seven want a nightly current affairs show. Similarly, my schedule would move reality to either 8:30pm or another channel

Saturday
6:00pm Seven News
7:00pm Today Tonight

** these could be interchangeable but my initial thoughts was to space Home And Away out to every second weeknight. With a 5 week break in late December to late January it should give exactly 230 episodes a year which is about the amount the screen a year

Would this be national or state based?

Ok.

Not really a variation is it when you pretty much change the whole thing.

National weeknights and state based (possibly pre-recorded) on Saturday nights.

Seven in AFL markets could air after AFL when Saturday night AFL games air.

Not really when beyond 8:30pm potentially remains the same

Wouldn’t it make more sense to run local on weeknights and national on weekends? Especially when there are more eyeballs on weeknights, etc.

I think the thing FTA can focus on is news, local drama and live television. They are the things the streaming services are missing. So maybe a Sunday night chat show?
