Mock Schedules

I doubt this would ever happen (nor make sense) but Steve Harvey’s got a talk show on Merit Street (Dr Phil’s tv channel) that could possibly fill that gap.

I’m not sure how the content of the show nor how or if it could be licensed to 10 but i’m not sure of many other talk shows out there.

Does The Talk rate on 10 anymore?

Daytime encores of the previous nights programming does good business for the networks, they would be mad to drop them despite other encores airing across the multis.

I doubt it, we never see figures, but it’s been moved around the schedule and was dropped for a few months. It’s only just recently gone back in the schedule in the last week or two at 6am, but as mentioned it will wrap up soon anyway.

If Days Of Our Lives and Young And The Restless end up on the main channel, I can’t really see where they might slot really encores in, given it’s highly unlikely they will air these US soaps from 6am in the morning.

The only 2 time blocks I can see for the soaps is either 10am til midday and 2pm til 4pm. If Drew Barrymore had remained at 11am or even moved til midday, 9am could have been where they ended up.

Reality encores could theoretically end up at 7am in the morning, but I think even this is highly doubtful.

By the end of the year or start or next year, we will see if and where Young And The Restless ends up, noting that nothing is guaranteed.

I’d drop MMK and run the news for two hours (although yea it would mostly be repeat…)

And use the same team for the daytime bulletin. Then use the Sydney 5PM for the Late News.

I think that 10 oud look at game shows for Saturday nights from 7pm. This is how I envisage could look if they moved news back to 6pm on the weekend

Saturday
6:00pm Ten News at 6
7:00pm The Price Is Right hosted by Daniel MacPherson
8:00pm Let’s Make A Deal hosted by Magda Szubanski
9:00pm Blankety Blanks hosted by Hugh Sheridan
10:00pm The Panel
11:00pm Law And Order
12:00am Have You Been Paying Attention (rpt)

Thanks for incorporating my Sunday ABC schedule . Another wish I had for the ABC was if they had late news on the weekends since they already have a bulletin on the news channel.

Also I wish all late news bulletins were on at a consistent time but that’s a bit difficult.

Swap out Magda for say Glenn Robbins, Tony Martin or even Shaun Micallef
Swap out Daniel for either of Rhys Nicholson, Joel Creasey or Melanie Bracewell
Swap Hugh for either Sam Pang or Ed Kavalee

You could be right with your suggestions. I was thinking you need different faces across the programs when I made these suggestions

Maybe have a afternoon kids programming block aimed at older children on the main channel

Weekdays or on the weekend?

December 1991
As per Ten Sydney schedule. Station close just after midnight until end of month

Nine: Monday to Friday Afternoons (2025)

  • 2:00 PMPointless
  • 3:00 PMTipping Point
  • 4:00 PMNine News: The Nation at 4 (30 mins)
  • 4:30 PMNine News: Your State at 4:30 (30 mins)
  • 5:00 PMTipping Point Australia

News Format:

  • Nine’s Afternoon News would be split into two 30-minute bulletins:
    1. National Focus (4:00 PM): A bulletin produced from Sydney or Canberra, focusing on national news and major issues.
    2. State Focus (4:30 PM): State-based bulletins would follow, mirroring the national segment’s structure but with a state-centric viewpoint.
  • Regional Variations:
    • WIN, NBN, and Nine Gold Coast would not take the state-based 4:30 PM bulletin. Instead, they would fill the slot with a localized variant:
      • WIN Nine: Your Region at 4:30
      • GCQ: Gold Coast at 4:30
These regional bulletins would match the O&O state bulletins in style, replacing WIN News and Nine’s Gold Coast News.

Saturday Nights (Outside NRL Commitments)

  • 6:00 PMNine News

  • 7:00 PMExtra (Revived)

  • 7:30 PM onwards – Regular Saturday programming

  • A Current Affair (ACA) Saturday would be rebranded as Sunday Forum and moved to a new timeslot. The program would air after 60 Minutes on Sunday nights and be reformatted into a Q&A style, focusing on one ‘hot button’ issue from the previous week’s ACA episodes, with an in-depth debate from every possible viewpoint.

  • Each state would receive its own version of Extra at 7:00 PM on Saturdays, an ‘ACA-lite’ format showcasing key local issues and events.

I am all for innovation, but I think this proposal for WIN and Gold Coast for a 4:30pm local program would be a waste of time as they would not be able to promote it as a part of the launchpad into the evening programming.

Also you say NBN would not take the state based 4:30pm but would fill with a localised variant with no mention what that could be. Noting NBN TV already air a 1 hour bulletin with local stories integrated into a national bulletin. Again, a 4:30pm localised program would be likely to fail.

I say if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it - it’s not like they are coming in third or fourth in the regions

If Nine actually want to change the daytime schedule, this is what I would do

5:00am Today - hosted by David Campbell and Sarah Abo
8:30am Today Extra - hosted by Richard Wilkins and Sylvia Jeffries
10:30am Morning News
11:00am Tipping Point UK
12:00pm Pointless
1:00pm Movie/Reality encore
3:00pm Nine News Now
4:00pm Nine Afternoon News
4:30pm Tipping Point
5:30pm Stefanovic Tonight*
6:00pm National Nine News
7:00pm A Current Affair

  • Gold Coast and Win east coast would air Local News and Stefanovic Tonight would screen on 9Gem at 7pm

9Gem
10:30am My Favourite Martian
11:00am Antiques Roadshow
12:00pm General Hospital
12:55pm Coronation Street
2:00pm Pointless
3:00pm Movie
5:00pm 9Gem early evening encore
6:00pm Antiques Roadshow
7:00pm Stefanovic Tonight

For Nine O&O’s, each station would receive a 30-minute state bulletin at 4:30 pm, serving as an early local news update and acting as a lead-in to the evening programs while maintaining synergy across all regions.

WIN, GCQ, and NBN would still receive a state-based bulletin at 6:00 pm. However, in the 4:30 pm slot, each would produce a localized edition of the Metro 4:30 pm format. This means:

  • Your Region at 4:30 for WIN
  • Gold Coast at 4:30 for GCQ
  • Newcastle at 4:30 for NBN

This approach would replace the O&O 4:30 bulletin in each case, in line with Nine’s Metro stations, allowing for more relevant local content earlier in the day.

I personally would prefer a 5:30pm if a 6pm edition was not available. Also I believe Local News pre 6pm should be encored post 6pm on a secondary channel

What about north coast and New England in NBN TV regions?

I don’t think this would work. This will probably kill the local news if anything. Majority isn’t home till 5pm ish. 5:30pm or later would be the ideal time.
