Mock Schedules

Don’t mind the idea of a half hour current affairs show at 6:30, biggest issue would be getting the format & idea right to be an alternative.

Though not sure a copy of the ACA/Today Tonight format would be the way to go. 10 are (usually) better when they’re different, not the same.

If they truly wanted to be different, 10 should start their primetime at 7pm and then have a comedy/news panel show at 9pm(ish).

It probably wouldn’t work though. You can’t start a show mid way through 7 and 9 News. People aren’t going to turn to 10 midway through their news. They don’t do it now with The Project, they won’t with a new show.

Seemingly nothing will work against the 6pm news, by that theory they may as well give up entirely?

In the early days, they briefly tried The Project from 6-7pm and it didn’t work. That ship has long sailed to be truly competitive over the hour, they need to run their own race.

As it stands now, 6pm is now mostly holding onto its lead-in and increased demos in that slot which is what actually matters as that revenue helps pays the bills.

We all know thst 10 can’t compete against Seven and Nine in the 6-7pm hour. But Deal seems to be doing okay at 6pm, generally making the top 30 in the ratings, something that the 6pm portion of the news wasn’t able to do that often.

Would The Project work as a half hour show with just 3 panelists of Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris and one “comedian”, instead of 4? Could be a sharp and quick version of what it is now.

With reality shows at 7pm. And the panel shows / factual shows at 8.30?

It’s about building a solid alternative

They may never reach 7/9 but if as Deal proves they can have a success for them, building from news into Deal then into a current affairs show that airs not against ACA then into a local news at 7 I think is a very strong alternative

Absolute crazy idea alert.

10 are known, well at least they used to be, for being different and taking risks. This is a crazy idea but what else is this thread for lol.

Weekends
4pm 10 News
4:30pm Sports Tonight
5pm 10 Family Movie
7pm 10 News Weekend with Sports Tonight
7:30pm Reality. (Spread throughout the year. All realities to be a weekly format) Saturday and Sunday episodes. Twice a week shows. Roughly 6-8 weeks per show. Rotation.
9:30pm 10 Late News
10pm Up Late with… (viewers choice show, voting throughout the week)

The Monday to Friday 8:30pm shows would be all year round, however only run during school terms so 10 weeks on 2 weeks off 10 weeks on etc just to give audiences a break and not year round fatigue.

During those breaks a family movie would air as children are on holidays and are able to watch and stay up a little later.

A state based current affairs program might work at 6:30pm or 7pm provided irs not metro centric eg not Sydney-centric in NSW and not Melbourne-centric in a Victoria etc.

I think the danger if it’s supposed to be a national show (with Ten more than others), that it will be centred around the city it’s produced in eg if in Melbourne, then more Melbourne focused etc

A local news program at 7pm could be a problem as ABC already has a similar product. To offer an alternative, perhaps the reality programs either need to start at 7pm OR not start til 8:30pm with programming for older viewers between 7pm and 8:30pm eg 7pm Sale Of The Century and say sitcoms or family friendly drama at 7:30pm

@David no, just no

When The Drew Barrymore Show premiered in the United States it was an hour long. Nowadays, the show runs for half an hour.

The show is produced as two half hour parts that can be run together or separately.

Why all the obsession with news! Haven’t watched tv news for years and all this is far too much for a night of 10 programming.

@Pozpa’s schedule only has an extra half hour of news per night.

The only difference between what I would do scheduling wise as opposed to the above is a new current affairs program at 7pm

This is how late mid-late evenings would look under my idea

Monday to Friday
9:30pm The Project
10:30pm Ten News
11:00pm US Drama
12:00am The Late Show
1:00am The Project (rpt)
2:00am Infomercials
4:00am Entertainment Tonight
4:30am CBS This Morning

I know it may be news heavy but look at the top shows each night…news still is the number one and most consistent driver to FTA (apart from perhaps sport) and going heavier on news also means that they only have to fill 2 hours of entertainment each night for the year - someting that they are struggling to do!!!

In this mock I would also see the project morphing into more of an entertainment/tonight show (even more so than it currently is).
