Apparently he said something controversial when Cleo was found, but I didn’t see it. I only realised he had been banned not too long ago.

My recollection, that may be corrected by mods, was an initial voluntary exit after clashing with other members in one of the news topics about how much media attention finding Cleo generated. Subsequently he posted unflattering comments on social media about Media Spy. I am guessing that was when the suspension occurred. Then recently, there was speculation on his view of the Cleo interview.

IIRC he threw the toys out of the pram when some members challenged his opinion on the Cleo Smith saga.

Interesting to see so many long term users go
I’ve found in recent times I enjoy reading the discussions but haven’t contributed significantly in a while (if anyone cares)
After leaving SCA in early 2021 (and TV all together) the forum seems to less relevance to my day to day life, although the knowledge I gained from working in that industry has left me with a keen interest in many of the topics discussed
I joined this strange and interesting job at a time when I knew very little about it initially, and got to see certain things happen first hand like the decommissioning of the old Watson studios and the transition to NPC media for playout
The people here would answer my questions and I learned more about my own work than many of my colleagues knew, which was interesting
I may pop up from time to time here and there, so many interesting people to talk to here for what is (by mainstream standards) a niche subject matter

Seems we’ve had a bit more attrition than normal on the forums of late, with a few long termers walking away for various reasons. I think some of this comes down to the long term impact Covid has had- people have developed their own views on things and they are typically quite strong so there has been quite a few flashpoints in that regard. I think as a whole, from this, society as a whole has become more frayed and polarised and people in general are less willing to accept alternative ideas and thinking (or have their ideas challenged), and in general just have less patience than they might have used to. I think we’ve seen this play out here to a degree as well (as a microcosm of society) and that’s where a lot of this has come from. Compared to social media though (and Twitter in particular, which has devolved into a hyperpolitical tribal cesspit), I feel as though MediaSpy (and the mod/admin team) have done a pretty good job of balancing things and have been always been fair and reasonable in how they’ve approached various situations and incidents.

The mods either do nothing about issues or ban people. That seems to be the balance these days.

I feel like the biggest problem is that some people take it quite personally when someone disagrees with their opinions (ala ‘I can’t express my opinion on here?’) even though it’s a genuine disagreement of opinion and not a criticism of the person themselves. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean you can’t post your point of view, just that it’s up for discussion and argument if there is alternative perspectives.
Overall I think some really need to take a bex and lie down for a bit. It’s not just one’s opinions that matter but everyone’s. Otherwise we might as well be an echo chamber.

As a young man and a human being I’ve certainly been guilty of this behaviour at times (I’m sure we all have at some point) but it’s a sign developing emotional intelligence and maturity to be able to treat others with respect and to learn to be challenged from time to time without feeling personally attacked.

It’s always sad to see members leave. I wish SydneyCity all the best. I am not aware of the issues surrounding his absence but what makes this forum relevant is the robust debate. Without forum members that becomes hard to do.

I’m sad he left, too. One thing we can admire about him is once he makes a decision, he never backs down from it and never wants any kind of productive discussion around it. I wish him well with his future endeavours.

SydneyCityTV pretty much lashed out at this group on Twitter quite recently (after supposedly leaving the forum for 2 months by choice). In the posts he was constantly attacking “Media Spy” as a whole over certain comments that he read or plucked out. That is likely where the ban came in.

Does anyone know what happened to ceejay? He had a lot of interesting stories spanning over quite a few decades, and had some strident opinions as well. I haven’t seen him around lately, his profile says he hasn’t been online since October.
