A source has told New Idea magazine that Amanda Keller is emerging as the frontrunner.

That source said…

Game shows are “the new battleground in TV land right now… Ten will throw everything at Hot Seat to make it a hit”.

“Hot Seat is expensive. However, fans were in uproar when it was rested. If the ever-popular Amanda Keller does sign on to host, they could have a ratings juggernaut on their hands”.

This came 4 days after Herald Sun published a “could this be…?” article that simply speculated Rebecca Gibney as the favorite. I simply think it was a slow news day because her name first emerged last month and nothing was revealed that wasn’t before.

Adding up together and it is possible that the two are locked in a tight race, although NI did allude to a “fierce competition”.

Only 19 days to go until taping commences. When will 10 announce when the host name will be announced? No one knows.

I’d be happy with Amanda Keller, she’s had a long career across multiple formats and genres and I think she’d be able to be really good with this format for keeping it funny but also serious and keeping people watching across multiple demos and certainly isn’t as polarising as someone like Eddie was. As much as I like Rebecca Gibney and many of the other names put forward I can’t see them working as well as Amanda so I’d be happy if it was her.

Game shows are usually flimed in blocks so if a 4 weeks of shows were filmed every 4 weeks it could work.

Are there any Melbourne based people on the list of contenders for the role?

I can’t see Amanda Keller taking much time off her radio station for the next few months. Her breakfast show - “Jonesy & Amanda” - is wrapping up after a 20 year run on breakky radio (before moving to drive time next year). I’m just speculating here, but she might want to end her breakky run on the radio on a high, and doesn’t want to leave her tight knit team to do Millionaire. I do however think she would be a suitable contender for this game-show.
