Micro Shows

Discussion thread for short-form or “Micro” shows, which is only a few minutes long per episode. It is usually streamed on social media or YouTube.

According to The Age/SMH, it is a micro-reality series produced by Ronde Media (Bondi Rescue, The First Inventors).

so far, no free-to-air broadcaster has owned up to backing the series. Seven, Ten and Foxtel have confirmed the series is not theirs. Nine has been contacted for comment. (Working theory: we can safely say it’s neither ABC nor SBS.)

Netflix or Amazon, maybe?

If it’s not Nine content, why do they embed it into MAFS episodes (not the ad breaks) on 9Now?

Nine has revealed more details about Flex. It will be available as a 1-2 minute long micro episodes on Instagram and Tiktok, with full episodes on 9Now.

UPDATE

Nine tests the waters with new micro-drama Flex

Nine has launched what it is claiming to be “Australia’s first micro-reality series” Flex, which will be released onto social media in a weekly stream of one-to-two-minute episodes.

Nine seems to be taking a similar route to Paramount Skydance for Flex with the media release explaining “the full story unfolds on 9Now, where 22-25 minute weekly episodes capture the setbacks, the aspirations and the unfiltered reality of a place where the hustle never sleeps.”

It’s an interesting experiment, however one that stops short of hinging its entire future on a nascent format that’s yet to catch fire in Australia. Someone has to be the trailblazer, and Nine is determined to claim that title – even if they are hedging their bets with what is mostly a traditional half-hour reality show.

This thread reminds me of that show called Micro Nation which was similar that aired back in 2012 on Eleven. It was 5 minutes for every episode.
