Metro Radio Ratings - Survey 6, 2024

I wonder if there are certain performance conditions in the contract that need to be met though, before any rollout to Brisbane. There could even be a get out clause if Melbourne bombs, which it is.

In this case, it feels good to say “Told you so” :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: (which virtually everyone did).

You could be onto something here.

As far as I know and I don’t listen to the whole show everyday, Kyle hasn’t mentioned Brisbane in a few months?

KiiS have basically sacrificed Melbourne in order to keep K&J on contract.

TFW when you cannot use ‘Sydney’s No.1’ or ‘Nine Radio dominates the nation’ as your leading headline.

Surely KISS would have this written into the contract.

I believe KISS will give K&J another year in Melbourne before pulling the pin.

It’s an interesting discussion.

Didn’t KIIS and Kyle say they’d done the market research and Melbourne were “already listening to us anyway”.

Where did they get this from? Clearly wrong.

It’s been a few good results for Triple M in Perth. Persistences pays off :+1:
On the other hand, it’s been the opposite for Triple M Sydney. Maybe they need to take a leaf from Triple M Perth

However, the ratings table has Ross and Russ at 22.5 share, up 1.2 from survey 5. Where did the extra share come from?

I think they assumed the Podcast audience K & J had in Melbourne would switch across to KIIS, as they would have had location stats from LiSTNR. But why would you listen to 101.1? less ads on Podcast and can listen whenever you want!

Exactly. It seems to have been a bit of a leap to conclude that podcast listeners would suddenly start listing to the same show on radio with extra ads, and I assume news and traffic reports.

Surely ARN see a pattern here. They have two No. 1 stations outside Sydney, 96fm and Mix 102.3. The stations they have KIISified in Melbourne and Brisbane aren’t winning. Melbourne is a disaster and Brisbane is hanging in there but is 5th in the market, and trailing an AM music station.

If they roll out K&J to 97.3 they are officially insane.

Meanwhile, great results for Triple M Perth and 4BH.

More significantly, they managed to take out the #1 position in the 25-39s, beating out Nova. Also, this is 92.9’s best overall result since S8/2019, back when they were Hit.

In Sydney, WS managed to outrate 2UE in the 65+, which hasn’t happened since S8/2020. Smooth has previously outrated 2UE in the 65+ a few times.

Some encouraging signs for Magic in Melbourne too, up 0.9.

In Adelaide, Mix 102.3 is now the number 1 station, however Triple M remains number 1 at Breakfast, winning their 13th survey in a row, with ABC in second place.

Mix 102.3 won the morning and afternoon sessions, with Triple M winning Drive. FiveAA won evenings, with the ABC continuing to suffer in the timeslot following the departure of Peter Goers.

Mix 102.3 won weekends.

Were the Olympics included in this survey? People did not appreciate the around-the-clock coverage.

Maybe it’s time to turn KIIS 101.1 into a Narrowcast radio station? May as well only appeal the station now to a particular niche, i.e, the niche who are die-hard Kyle and Jackie O superfans. Rebrand it as K&JO 101.1.

The only reason to listen on FM at breakfast time is if you want to call into the show for competitions or for First Calls or Last Calls. Other than that, then yeah, there’s no reason to tune in on FM.

Record audiences have their Breakfast with Craig Reucassel in GfK survey 6

More Sydneysiders are tuning into Breakfast on ABC Radio Sydney with Craig Reucassel than ever before.

GfK survey 6 delivered Sydney Breakfast its highest share since Survey 6 2022 up 1.2 share points to 10.0% share. This result takes the program to #4 in the Sydney Breakfast market.

The program also added 10,000 listeners this survey for a reach of 265,000, the best result since Survey 7 2023.

Craig has been presenting ABC Radio Sydney Breakfast since January 2024. He is also known for his work with The Chaser and for presenting 3 seasons of the critically acclaimed War on Waste series on ABC TV.

Survey 6 also saw the ABC continue our uninterrupted position as Australia’s number 1 live streaming network and increasing our share by +0.2pts to 26.1%.

ABC Head of Audio Ben Latimer said: “Craig has dedicated himself fully to his debut year in Breakfast radio, and today’s result is a well-deserved reflection of his hard work and the efforts of the entire team.”

“To see a result this strong in his first year as presenter, particularly in the competitive Sydney Breakfast market, is testament to Craig’s ability to connect with the local audience.”
