Metro Radio Ratings - Survey 4, 2025

It shows one format fits all approach doesn’t work in these 2 cities. KIIS is another example.

SCA are surely worried about SAFM breakfast, this is their second worst result since the start of 2024. In brekky, they’re consistently last among FM competitors, they’ve shed another 10K cume, averaging a 7.7% share this year with only three FM competitors and have notched up their second-worst result since the start of 2022. Their brekky cume is the lowest its been for years (except for an even worse result in S1 this year).

Seems like Adelaide is crying out for someone to do something different in the brekky slot

Well done Triple M Perth! I hope we’re formally going to see, “Perth’s Real Alternative” stick around (and rolled out elsewhere). Just so long as SCA don’t “eastern-ise” Triple M Perth too much with the 80’s (and some of their 90’s) rock that I have heard.

I believe GFK/CRA have the data, but it’s never released as these other stations don’t pay for the survey.

I was also interested to see how well Other AM/FM does in Sydney, share-wise. We don’t have overspill in the same was as Brisbane/GC do, so ‘Other’ would mostly be SRN and Community.

This is only the second time 104.3 has topped the Melbourne ranker. The only other time? Its debut survey as KZFM with a 14.6 in S1/1990.

Also - the last time FM was #1 in both Sydney and Melbourne? S8/2012 (2Day and Fox)

Ratings bloodbath: Triple M soars, Nova stumbles, and KIIS can’t catch a break

Nova 106.9 has suffered its biggest drop of the year with Triple M cementing its dominance to take out Brisbane’s top spot in the latest radio ratings.

Triple M has obliterated the competition in Brisbane’s latest GfK radio ratings, cementing its status as the city’s number one station and knocking former breakfast leader Nova 106.9 off its lofty perch.

In what marks their third straight ratings win, the SCA powerhouse captured 13.3 per cent of the overall market share in Survey 4, released Tuesday, further widening the gap between themselves and the rest of the FM pack.

And it’s breakfast where the real upset unfolded.

Triple M’s Marto, Margaux and Dan pulled off a staggering leap, gaining 1.5 percentage points to dominate the coveted morning slot with 13.2 per cent, narrowly toppling sister station B105’s Stav, Abby and Matt, who sit just behind at 13.1 per cent.

“Triple M soars”? I think 4BH deserves the biggest wrap from Brisbane today.

Same for J&A I’d say. Especially following Christian’s strong PR.

As usual, you are correct. There were 9 surveys that year (not sure why either). I had 3AW mis-credited with a 13.7, but upon double checking it was indeed an 11.7. So… two prior #1s for 104.3 (and they were just edged out in S1/1993 by 0.1.)

Interestingly, before Gold was networked into Sydney, WSFM skewed slightly younger than Gold 104.3, which skewed slightly older.

When Smooth FM originally launched in 2012, it skewed slightly older in Sydney and slightly younger in Melbourne, as they had different playlists.

However, now both Gold stations share the same playlist as does Smooth across its 5 stations.

You could probably add C91.3 to that list.

Drive for 3AW coming 6th is horrendous. Time to put Heidi behind the chair, the show is way more engaging and flows better each time she fills in. Jacqui never reads out emails either it’s always about bayside .
Worried for Moclair in afternooons too

I also feel CADA on 96.1 would influence this as well. I know CADA is reported in the DAB figures, but it’s a bit of a blur between that and those listening on 96.1

Decent figures for Triple M Melbourne.

"Do I think the show is universally entertaining? Yes. Are we planning to take the show into other markets at this point? No.”

I think Jacqui has improved a great deal from 18 months ago even though it’s not reflected in the figures. The traction she brings from social media/Instagram is quite remarkable.

I’d be more concerned about AW’s drop in Mornings. Neil Mitchell’s last survey in 2023 was a 16.3. Big mistake moving Tom out of Drive where he was dominating. The morning show needs a journalist such as Heidi or TJ (or anyone else) to set the news agenda for the day.
