MELBOURNE
Though still #1, 12.5 is the poorest showing for 3AW in almost a decade (since S4/2015).
PERTH
96FM’s 17.1 is its best showing since S3/2001.
It must be said the survey took place during the campaigning period for the 2025 federal election and election night (May 3) as well as the opening weeks of the AFL and NRL seasons, so there was some anomaly with the results.
Anyway, 3AW will be puzzled as to how it performed badly in this survey, especially during drive and nights. ABC Melbourne posted increases in all weekday timeslots, though its highest share was still below 8%.
Nova’s Jase and Lauren regained top spot on Melbourne FM breakfast and was one of only two shows to record double digit share in the timeslot. Fox’s Fifi, Fev and Nick was up 0.6 from previous survey while Kyle and Jackie O (KIIS), Triple M and Gold all fell.
Nova was also No.1 in the 10-17 and 18-24 demographics in Melbourne.
Jase and Lauren now exactly double the share of the overpaid duo that replaced them!
Here are the overall ratings in ranking order.

Good survey for 4BH that seemed to have taken a small share of all the commercials.
Some thoughts on the survey results for Sydney:
- KIIS has a rating of 10.3% whilst 2DayFM and MMM combined rate 10.4%.
- SCA are going to talk about the big switch to 2DayFM as it rises 0.2% in the ratings, this new format looks like being shit before it hits.
- Maybe WSFM should have been renamed Bronze101.7
- MMM is slowly morphing into the embarrassment that is 2DayFM.
- Smooth is absolute proof that FM radio is made for music and they rule afternoon and drive.
- Ben Fordham should have been glued to the side of buses much earlier as the station owns breakfast by a wider margin as well as morning and nights
- If advertisers want to reach Sydney on the weekend, they should buy time on 2GB and smooth, together controlling a 25% share
- 2BL, sorry 702, sorry…ABC Sydney is down to 5.5% in the morning. Time to change the name of the station again.
The Gold ratings especially in Sydney had been fantastic in this survey.
WSFM rated a 10.9% in Survey 7 2024, but I suppose for Gold an 8.7% is good
Great survey for Triple M Perth. Up 1.4 in 10+ and breakfast. 1.1-1.4 gains across the workday
I think Thursday night footy is hurting 3AW. The older listener base would probably prefer Denis Walter to be hosting that timeslot as per normal.
ABC 774 breakfast up a bit.
Pretty much every prediction Game Changers made were wrong. They (Irene at least) are still delusional into thinking Kyle and Jackie O have a chance of growing an audience. Christian was 2nd and no fall for Nova breakfast. And Mick Molloy took a big tumble.
Except for 65+ it pretty much lifted across the board. Nights went down interestingly. But it’s very early but very hard to come to your conclusion based on the result.
2GB & 3AW dominate Sydney & Melbourne

Yeah, it’s over but they seem to be thinking it’s still alive. Thought the podcast pivoting might be an admission but then they had those predictions.
2UE now overtaken 2DAY and nipping at 2MMM’s heels? Good work by ACE, it’s just a shame they haven’t had the same success in Melbourne with 3MP/Magic which both seem to have stalled.
Feeling a bit sorry for Melbourne’s Magic 1278 and 3MP.
Their product is pretty good, but they just can’t get any traction. Stuck at 1 to 2 share forever.
Wonder if there’s been any thought about combining them into one station that might get a 3 or 4 share? But then, what format do you put on the other one?
they are putting out a good product from what I can tell from my sampling of both stations but just don’t seem to get anywhere. While 2UE and 4BH have benefitted from SEN takeovers on those cities, Melbourne hasn’t handed ACE the same legacy and any former disgruntled listeners from the old 3MP Easy Music days have either died off or found other options like Smooth and are not coming back to their old AM habits.
I think that because Melbourne has had Gold FM for many years that hasn’t been any gap in the market for a Gold AM station to take advantage of.
Some other random ratings detail:
- Triple M in Perth tops the 25-39s, beating Nova by 0.1.
- Gold in Sydney ranked 4th in the 40-54s (behind Smooth, KIIS & 2MMM).
- Nova & Smooth in Sydney tied for 2nd in the 25-39s (behind KIIS).
- Nova in Sydney topped the 18-24s.
