Yes a new backdrop would be most welcome
Where is Media Watch filmed? Could one of their other sets be repurposed, since most of everything is a screen nowadays?
I think it may be filmed in the same space that Planet America, and Four Corners (when it had a studio host) is filmed in, as they don’t require a large studio space like 21 and 22.
If they wanted a new set, they could even just use the 7.30 set, or the NSW 7pm set, since it won’t be used that much (if at all) after the 7pm news moves to Paramatta.
That would be some great TV!
Antoinette Lattouf has written an opinion piece in today’s SMH and The Age on whom the public thinks the next host should be.
EDIT 23/6: The Guardian Australia’s Amanda Meade wrote that SMH quietly removed an offensive term from Lattouf’s piece before it appeared online, without the addition of an editor’s note to explain the change in copy. Lattouf originally wrote: “The national broadcaster needs younger viewers to survive, … You can’t cater to the colostomy-bag crowd forever.” The term “colostomy-bag crowd crowd” was omitted from the online version.
It was a big week on Australian media last week, including coverage of Julian Assange’s return to home soil, and the first US presidential debate, but I was a bit surprised that this week’s episode did not mention the redundancies at Seven, Nine and News Corp. Maybe next week?
I agree, a much more important story than a US debate with little media criticism involved.
in what context though? like media watch calls out misdoings in the media, redundancies are just operational issues.
In the context of Meta not renewing its deal with all three outlets under the News Media and Digital Platforms Code. For Seven, there is also missed opportunities under previous CEO James Warburton.
feel that’s more a news or 7:30 item than Media Watch’s gotcha sorta style?
I know you’re one of our younger posters, but MW has always covered stories that affect the industry at large, mass layoffs across two of our biggest networks that touch the newsrooms is a story they’d usually cover.
ha, nice flattery whippersnapper, I have been using this site for over 20 years.
fair, perhaps they’re waiting for it to fully unfold so there’s more of a scope of the impacts. Certainly doesn’t sound like the cuts are done.
The show’s EP Tim Latham, who has been in the role for a decade, will also leave in December, according to The Guardian Australia’s Amanda Meade.
They had a lot of fun this week critiquing journalists who covered the non-stop Perth-Paris flight accusing Qantas of getting a free ride. Seem to have forgotten the six months of critical coverage Qantas received that saw their CEO shown the door in the end by the same outlets.
that’s got nothing to do with it, MW pointing out that Qantas can buy its way to glowing news coverage to try and repair its damaged image and journalists are prepared to go along for the ride, literally.
100% it does. They’ve shown they have no issue in calling out the airline, a huge media advertiser, when it is warranted. That doesn’t mean you’re barred from covering topics such as a new flight what holds huge public interest. Not every story holds a negative, despite MW wanting outlets to pick a side.
Would like to know the production costs of this show. Multiple producers, editors, and a high paid host to simply replay content from other outlets and make snarky comments.
Covering a positive story is fine, of course. If Qantas is paying journalists/media with junkets to ensure maximum/positive coverage and have news outlets provide a de facto PR campaign that is another issue.
Hearing Paul Barry say “gang bang” was not something I had ever considered.
I audibly gasped when he had.
