Yes, very interesting seeing some of those post.
Usually I don’t bother taking note of such forum milestones, but I can’t possibly let this one go by without some form of acknowledgement:
November 1, 2021 = Ten years of SydneyCityTV on Media Spy. It was around about this time of the evening that I made my very first forum post a decade ago.
During the last decade, there of course have been numerous high points and low points in between witnessing some major changes to the Australian media landscape - the latest of which we heard about just today. But on the whole, hopefully the majority of my posts have been entertaining and/or informative in some way.
While I’m hesitant to pick favourite members, special mentions really do have to go out to @Abesty, @NewsWeary, @RadioHead, @TelevisionAU, @TV.Cynic and @TV-Expert for their outstanding contributions (and at times, keeping me in check) over the past decade I’ve been on Media Spy. The forum just wouldn’t be the same without you guys!
Thanks also has to go out to all the media organisations and production companies who’ve provided so much material for me to discuss (both here and on Twitter) over the past ten years. Although we haven’t always seen eye to eye, hopefully I’m seen in a reasonably good light by the industry.
No doubt if I had never joined Media Spy, I probably also wouldn’t have joined Twitter to receive my following over there…but that’s a very long story for another time.
The #1 thing on a rather extensive list of things I hope the Australian media (especially the mainstream, commercial outlets) will improve on during the next decade: Representation of people on the autism spectrum, particularly for younger people. Do I really need to elaborate further as to why?
Anyway, here’s to (hopefully) another decade of highly questionable media analysis and observations!
Omg I can’t believe I’m featured in that video either I was known as Mr Wade previously (and prior to that AnchorWade). As a teenager I wanted to break into the industry, but just never quite got there. Hence the username AnchorWade. Then when I knew I wasn’t quite going to get there, I just became Mr Wade, then the move to discourse I decided just to use my own name haha.
And according to that video I was a senior member, and I had made over 1,300 posts in 9 years. Blimey I was much more active back then too. Very rarely comment on stuff these days
I can’t believe it’s already been 8 years of the current site. Wow.
8 years young.
And quite a few of us have been here since that launch. I forgot that a cake appears next to our user names when we celebrate an anniversary of joining this site.
Damn 8 years.
And next year will be 20 years on MS across all forums for me
happy 8 years!
Definitely the forum that made me participate more, even though I was part of the older forums for a little bit too.
2025 will be 20 years for me
I’m the same, although I remember lurking on here from 2003.
What year did MS launch?
I think my earliest point on here would’ve been late 2013 or early 2014.
I think it was around 2001/2002?
But it was a very different place back then.
It would only be 7 years for me. lol
Wasn’t it mostly pervy “personality” threads with photos of female newsreaders?
Yikes
I must confess I first stumbled upon this website way back in 2011 or it may have been 2012 but at the time there was a major issue going on with the website going on so I could never get it to work. in 2015 I found it again and would go on here but I didn’t officially sign up until 2017.
I’ve also been around since 2011 (before under a different username).
How time flies, I was a still a teenager when I joined in 2010 (or thereabouts), and now I’m knocking on the door of 30. So much has changed in the world and in the media landscape since then.
I don’t remember the exact date I joined. The oldest thing I can find is an avatar I made for my MediaSpy profile dated 28/12/2005, exactly 18 years ago.
I remember Smacca!
