Twenty-five years since Tess and Claire McLeod first graced Australian screens, McLeod’s Daughters is making a comeback, Stan announced at the Nine Upfronts on Thursday.

A sneak peek of the revived production depicts a woman riding on horseback through the great Aussie outback.
We can’t see her face, but we’re putting our bets on her being a member of the McLeod clan.
“A place you remember,” a female voice narrates the video teaser.
McLeod’s Daughters followed the lives of half-sisters Claire and Tess McLeod, who inherit their family’s vast South Australian cattle station, Drover’s Run, after the death of their father.
Separated for 20 years, city-reared Tess returns with plans to sell her half, but the estranged sisters decide to work together to save the financially troubled property.
Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that last season - re shafting it to Saturday nights.
I just had a look. Last season’s airing in 2009 looked like this: Ep 1-3: Wednesday 8:30 pm, eps 4-6: Saturday 8:30 pm; eps 7 and 8: 10:00 pm, and eps 9-22: 9:30 pm.
I wish my late mum was here. She absolutely adored this show. Wednesday nights were her nights once it came on, you couldn’t call or chat with her because she was completely glued to the TV.
Internationally, it will do well too. The show is still streamed and broadcast in over 100 countries and territories
i will admit the last few seasons went off the rails hence the decline in viewership but i feel like this Stan reboot will have legacy storytelling and back to the core of what the show was about.
For me the show really started struggling was the never ending Tess/Nick saga with Sally. OMG. Especially toward the end of season 4, when Sally comes back with a “spawn of evil in her belly”. Then the first half of Season 5 was dedicated to that mess.
Season Six really faltered when they decided to make Jodie a Mcleod. It really was just a detremental shit dump on the show’s premise and ruined Meg as a character . (Especially after she wrote a book about it which pissed off Jodie, lol). Then we had all these fricken McCleods coming in.
Simmone Jade Mickinnon as Stevie was an excellent addition to the cast, and her character was such a great refresh after Claire “departed for the new world”. (Lisa Chappell leaving at the end of season 3).
Season 1 had a lot of heart and really focused on farming and the women’s struggles, while season 2 somewhat missed a lot of that, especially when Claire finds out the tool she’s dating is a married twithead.
Granted the brothers (Alex and Nick) was enthralling to watch, both being manipulated by Harry. Some brotherly rivalvary was good to see and Harry’s obsession of getting Drovers, but Claire refusing to budge.
While I am not keen on a reboot, I have to admit, how this will go, especially there is Claire’s daughter to consider, Charlotte, to consider. She was born in 2001, so she would be about 27 or 26, so maybe the storylines will involve her somehow and maybe Tess. If that is an angle they go , that could work.
Just don’t want them to bring back Claire from the dead. There are a lot of things that could go wrong with if it’s not executed properly.
Tess also had a daughter during the show’s run and her name was Claire Ryan McLeod. So the new show could likely be about cousins Charlotte McLeod and Claire Ryan McLeod. Tess potentially could have also had more daughters.
After they made Jodi Fountain a McLeod as well, she could possibly also have had children which would be McLeods and more cousins for Charlotte and Claire.
Interestingly Posey’s not involved at all, but she has passed to baton. She did write a prequel years ago that she was trying to get made but it fell flat.
Yes it’s been converted to a true homestead, accomodation as well as an events venue. I’ll be very suprised id they go back there but who knows!
