Max (formerly called/soon to be called HBO Max)

It’s not overly big, but it’s definitely not small.

Looks ok to me. Looks better than Disney IMO which I think is disappointing.

Out of interest, what shows were you hoping for?

I think they’ll ramp up adding content on the platform in the weeks and months ahead, could have been part of the launch strategy to have it seem like they’re constantly adding new content.

This TV Tonight article shows a lot of upcoming titles to be added in April.

I am a bit confused about a lack of Last Week Tonight. Lots of Adult Swim missing (apart from Rick & Morty), no Common Side Effects, Eric Andre Show, Smiling Friends. Max’s Fired on Mars missing.

I guess the Adult Swim stuff is the most disappointing, as it’s been pretty vacant from the AU market previously.

I remember reading somewhere that Foxtel got to hold onto it exclusively until the end of the year.

Michael Brooks, general manager for Warner Bros Discovery Australia, also did an interview with Mumbrella regarding the local launch of Max, as well as maintaining relationships with Foxtel and Nine.

I wouldn’t be surprised if their plan is to have (pay) exclusivity to all their content eventually, like after Disney Plus launched for example with all Disney and Fox titles.

So if Foxtel Media’s WBD licencing agreements lapse/are terminated say in another year, that’ll be great for Max (and their library would become quite expansive and especially with HBO you’d think start to grow into a top streamer destination) but leave huge gaps and question marks for Foxtel/Now/Go and Binge. Obviously the current relationship with Foxtel makes things complex, but both parties knew Max was around the corner in this territory and were willing to sign a couple of years ago.

Dan Barrett did a good piece for the ABC website on Max’s launch some days back, worth a read.

Speaking of Max, their logo is now just black. The changeover happened today and it affects United States, and other territories.

FYI:

What’s next, introducing the snowflake visuals to evoke a friendly and familiar feeling?

I guess ill be signing up for Max. I was only half way thru season 2 of The White Lotus on Binge and now its gone :eyes:.

Max is a pretty rough launch proposition honestly. Would have hoped for a better introductory deal while they still handle these rights transition quirks.

If I switch away from Binge I will miss some of the local perks, like the news channels and the lingering shows that haven’t yet transferred to Max. But they’re also not valuable enough for Binge to still cost the same amount that it does.

AFAIK it will still be on Foxtel/Binge until the season ends.

That’s season three. It’s season two he’s talking about.

Apologies, I didn’t read that right!

Almost made the same mistake before realising the first two seasons are now exclusive to Max.
