Max (formerly called/soon to be called HBO Max)

Just on Facebook. With All Killer no filler tag line.

Do we think it’ll be worth subscribing to?

Maybe they’re disappointed with the marketing materials provided.

Yep. :+1:

Limited budget more like it. The campaign and creative marketing is decided by WBD AU with sign off by global streaming heads in NY.

I like the tagline - feels and sounds very Aussie to me - but that one spot falls a little flat. Doesn’t excite me. I presume there is more to come.

I’ve seen some ads on 7Plus (through the Seven live stream) over the last few days.

Not really a Australian ad but the only Tv ad I have seen was on CNNI. CNNI is marketing the hell out of it.

When presented with what Max has to offer, a lot of subscribers will think it’s just more of the same movies and shows already available on streaming services in Australia.

This is what makes the launch of Max so interesting. Yes, it is the last to the party. And yes, it is YASS (yet another streaming service). But it also represents something that is uncomfortably different: Max isn’t here to be another streaming service; many subscribers will use it to replace Australian service BINGE.

From launch, BINGE has sold itself as the home of HBO in Australia, the upmarket, prestige TV channel owned by Warner Bros Discovery. HBO is synonymous with the best that TV has to offer, with titles like The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Sex & The City, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us.

But when Max launches, all of those shows will disappear from the BINGE streaming service and become exclusive to Max. Max is, effectively, the HBO streaming service. It will also have other beloved Warner Bros Television titles like The Big Bang Theory, Rick & Morty, and Friends, along with a huge number of Discovery reality shows.

All we need now is for Peacock to launch in Australia (I predict later this year), and for Sony to have a broad streaming service (not just for those with Sony Bravia TVs) and every major Hollywood studio will have its own streamer.

We do not need another streaming service.

With that being said, i would subscribe to Peacock, but i cannot see that launching anytime soon.

Peacock tried to expand internationally and then cut back in favour of local deals.

Bravia Core isn’t a subscription streamer, it’s Apple TV for people who want higher quality digital rentals. Sony have been widely praised for not sinking money into an SVOD platform and they absolutely don’t need one. They do very well licencing and producing to other streamers.

4-part game show Fast Friends launches on Max in Australia on April 1.

Also included in the article was confirmation that Big Bang spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage would air on the service - don’t think I’ve seen that mentioned anywhere.

Has anyone heard of a possible delay?

I noticed this too but the website hasn’t changed the date. Must be an Apple error.
