Geelong Cats champion Michael Turner dies at age 70
Geelong champion and revered talent manager Michael Turner has died after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Turner passed away peacefully at Lorne Community Hospital on Monday, just weeks after marking his 70th birthday earlier this month.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Leo, Turner played 245 games for the Cats in a celebrated career which spanned from 1974 to 1988.
Featuring on a wing and across half-forward, he kicked 285 goals and served as club captain from 1984 to 1986.
Geelong Falcons announced Turner’s passing on social media earlier tonight.
Had a huge impact on a lot of up and coming talent out of the Geelong area - certainly in no small part responsible for bringing some big names into the AFL. Vale.
Star Wars actor Angus MacInnes has died, aged 77.
Known for a number of film roles, including as Gold Leader, Jon “Dutch” Vander alongside Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: A New Hope, MacInnes passed away on December 23 surrounded by family and friends.

I’m not normally all that interested in the weddings of footy players but I like this one. Danielle’s father, Danny Frawley, died suddenly a few years ago with CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy) a neurodegenerative disease linked to head trauma, ie, concussion. This can only be diagnosed after death. Angus retired from footy in 2023 on medical advice following many concussions over his career. It’s unknown whether he’s also got CTE but I hope Danielle and Angus have a long and happy future together.
