Businessman and philanthropist David Bandas died in Melbourne on Wednesday this week, aged 85. He founded the Sportsgirl fashion chain in the 1950s and was also a City of Melbourne councillor from 1996 to 1997. He was recognised with an Officer of the Order of Australia on Australia Day 2018 for his service to the retail fashion industry, the Jewish community and for his philanthropic contributions.
