I am in a complete shock. Gudinski made a huge contribution to the local music industry, not least by nurturing new artists and organising charity concerts in short amount of time (Asian tsunami concert in 2005, Sound Relief in 2009 and Music from the Home Front last year).

I was involved in the melbourne music scene in the late 90’s and saw michael at quite a few industry things. He was always giving of his time to this young punk who wanted to make it big. He even one night gave me and a friend backstage passes to Kylie at rod laver so we could see how things were done from setup to packdown.

The ABC has put out a statement in tribute to Michael Gudinski in recognition of his impact on the Australian music industry, and his contribution to music programming on the ABC

I was in huge shock. Empty hearts and an empty place here in the Australian music industry. Michael Gudinski was a titan of the music industry and contributed well to the Australian music over the past 4 decades. He has signed several generations of Australian musicians and performers including Kylie Minogue, Split Enz and Eskimo Joe and Evermore. Gudinski organised a lot of charity concerts including the Asian Tsunami Concert at the SCG in 2005, Sound Relief Concert at the MCG and SCG in March 2009 and Music from the Home Front on ANZAC Day 2020, and Sounds Better Together in Mallacoota in Jan 2021. Gudinski received several awards for his work in the Australian music industry including an ARIA Award for Special Achievement in 1992 and the Member of the Order of Australia in the 2006 Queens Birthday Honours. The loss of Michael Gudinski has shocked not just Australian musicians, but throughout the world. The Australian music industry will never be the same without him. You will be missed. Vale Michael Gudinski.
