The Season 3 hour-long Grand Final was on tonight, at 7.30pm. I watched it, and quite enjoyed it. Marc Fennell has done a good job in the hosting role, like usual.
I assume that Season 4 starts next Monday, and not repeats? I’ve seen Mastermind in the guides next week.
I also saw the grand final tonight and enjoyed it. The result was not decided until the last minute of the third round when William Laing stumbled on three questions but eventually answered two correct questions to finish the night on 35 points, and win the title.
No mention of Celebrity Mastermind. I wonder if it will be shown after the Tokyo Olympics?
The first episode tonight was mixed. Hans provided plenty of laughs but just scraped home in the final round to beat James Mathison by one point. James, John Wood and Patricia Karvelas all struggled in their respective chosen topic and got several questions wrong.
Somebody needs to dig out the episode of Double Dare Patricia Karvelas appeared on as a child. She revealed it was her first TV appearance on Mastermind last night.
The Celebrity Mastermind season 2 grand final aired on Saturday, at the same time as the AFL Grand Final, so I naturally watched the footy while recording Mastermind. I watched Mastermind the next night (Sunday) after The Masked Singer finished.
The final four were Hans, Murray Cook (The Wiggles), Richard Reid and Phil Burton (Human Nature). Hans was right out of the blocks, scoring 15 points in the first round with his terrific knowledge of The Spice Girls. However he failed to get the correct answer in the slow burn round, and was overtaken by Phil. Phil also took out the general knowledge round and won the finale.
I enjoyed this season of Celebrity Mastermind. Who would have thought that some celebrities are so good with their knowledge in their chosen fields? Hope it will be back next year.
Glad that a fourth season is going to happen for Mastermind. If applications are now open, its safe to say that the new season will air next year.
As for the Celebrity Mastermind that aired over the last 5 Saturdays, i enjoyed watching them. It was quite watchable. The 8.30pm timeslot i didnt like, but still watched it (should have been 7.30). And to have the Final however on AFL Grand Final night was a bit odd though. And sadly, the ratings weren’t that impressive for this version this time around.
He’s the Jekyll and Hyde of Mastermind. This season, Walkley award-winning journalist and The Feed’s Marc Fennell returns as the host with the most, putting contenders through their paces as they brave the iconic Mastermind chair with only two tense minutes to answer as many questions as possible on their chosen specialist subject.
Marc says of this season, ‘Everyone is a nerd about something. That’s what I love about this show. Every night is a ride through pop culture, sport, science, politics, and occasionally narrow-gauge Welsh railways.
It’s honestly just such a delight to see so many diverse Australians bring their passions into the Mastermind Arena (it’s actually a TV studio but the lighting is very dramatic, so go with me on this. This year, the contenders are sharper, the topics are wilder, and the questions are harder.
The only thing that hasn’t changed is my inability to answer any of the questions about maths. Presumably, that’s why they make me ask the questions, and to a lesser degree, why I have been avoiding doing my tax,’ says Marc.
