Master Antenna TV Systems (Hospitals, Hotels, etc)

That channel rebranded to MTV 80s within the past few months. Should they have changed it by now?

Staying at a new Sydney hotel, which has another nonsensical bespoke LCN layout (pics below)

To make matters worse, the TV is a new 65 inch Samsung that has a very basic remote with no numerical keypad and only about 7 buttons.

At least all channels are HD where available and there’s a good selection of FOXTEL channels

Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane has all the FTZ channels as broadcast with the correct LCN including ABC and SBS radio.

Also, starting in the 100’s are a selection of movie channels that have a menu with the schedule, some local radio stations and several channels related to health. Hill is the provider.

Holiday Inn Geelong bespoke LCN.guide

:scream:

Even though its a pretty new hotel, 10Shake is already incorrect!

On holiday at the moment on the other side of the Tasman, the hotel I’m staying at in this small town (Taihape) only has a handful of Freeview stations (Taihape being outside of the UHF coverage area is served by satellite Freeview but most of these channels are missing too) along with a handful of Sky stations, all fed through the internal coaxial system via UHF, a slightly odd setup.

1- TVNZ 1
2- TVNZ 2
3- Three
15- Sky Open
30- Sky Movies Premiere
31- Sky Movies Comedy
51- Sky Sport 1
52- Sky Sport 2
53- Sky Sport 3
60- ESPN
85- Sky News
101- Nick

Good God, what on earth are you doing in Taihape? There’s nothing there!

Sounds like an old-school setup… except the channel numbers don’t make a lot of sense… If Sky Open was on Channel 4, I’d say they were passing it through to each room in analogue, but they can’t be, right?

Passing through on a road trip from Wellington up to Rotorua (and eventually Auckland) and decided to break the trip north up a bit.

I saw the giant gumboot, that was literally about the only notable or interesting thing lol.

I did a bit more digging into the settings, curiously it was being passed through on 4 digital multiplexes between UHF 25-28, with 3 channels per multiplex (for the 12 channels in total).

Seems to be an appropriate spot for this - I’ve stayed in a number of hotels/motels who’ve all ditched Foxtel in favour of some kind of chromecast offering, two of which had gone all in on Foxtel’s multiroom delivery system

A number of them need to stop advertising that they have Foxtel on offer too

Agreed, even most budget motor inns these days seem to have installed Wi-Fi connected Smart TVs often with previous users still signed into the streaming services, although I do like the ADB vuTyme based Foxtel Business IQ system which includes Google Chromecast an example being at the Forster Palms Motel which I just stayed at. One wonders what the future holds for this system given the recent ownership changes at Foxtel.

An unresponsive and buggy as hell Foxtel Business iQ system where we are staying tonight. Lucky to get the FTA TV and Foxtel channels working let alone the on demand Foxtel channels. The Chromecast is also out of action and not setup (or has lost its config).

That’s the problem with these systems, once they glitch out they are impossible for the guest to troubleshoot bar a power cycle or a call down to an unattended or inattentive Desk Clerk. At least a bog standard consumer Smart TV gives the guest the option to do basic troubleshooting provided they know how. On stays of longer duration I bring my own Fire TV stick.

Tel me more, never heard of this?

Grab one of those Amazon Fire TV sticks (the cheap ones are around $69 these days but can be had for around $50 on special), set it up at home with all your streaming services, pack it away in a zip lock bag in your luggage and when you arrive at a hotel plug it into the room TV’s HDMI port and connect it to the Guest Wi-Fi and away you go! They also support captive portals so if you need to sign into the Guest Wi-Fi you can.

Have been travelling with one during longer trips for a couple of years.

Great idea @motosenokia, thank you. I’m yet to find anything compelling to subscribe to but will suggest to my family who do subscribe.

I have a spare Chromecast, Chromebook, Microsoft Display Adapter, and Sueface for said emergencies.

I do question the adequacy of some MATV systems in accommodation facilities.

The last two nights I’ve stayed in motels in towns/addresses that should be getting good to strong FTA reception according to Myswitch. Yet there were some issues with stations pixelating at times. That shouldn’t be happening in my view.

I stayed at the Mantra Twin Towns this week. Their TV setup was a mess. There were two FTA inputs (one Gold Coast and one from NSW, which resulted in a lot of channels) and a handful of Foxtel channels, most of which didn’t work.

I am currently staying at Holiday Inn Potts Point (which is actually Kings Cross) in Sydney this week. The TV has a full suite of FTA TV and digital radio channels just like those at home. It also has a Netflix and Chromecast connection, but no Foxtel.

Fun fact, Kings Cross is actually only the point at which Victoria Street, Darlinghurst Road and William Street meet (where the Coke billboard is). The name has been colloqually extended to cover an area centered around Darlo Road, but its technically still Potts Point

The hotel is in fact named correctly

That wasn’t very fun.
