Not airing it would have nothing to do with the NRL but about being respectful, like how Masterchef held off their new season launch by a week when Jock passed. If they didn’t air it tonight then they would have no intention of airing on Thursday either, whether there was NRL or not.
It is the tail end of the season anyway, with I believe this Sunday the final commitment ceremony. So like other years they probably planned to spread the season out more over the Easter period anyway, where they could easily make up an episode here or there.
It’s very possible though that Mel wished for the show to air as planned. If it does I just hope there is a tribute. We are likely to get more in ‘After the dinner party’ as that is filmed weekly but I’m guessing that was probably filmed on the weekend before the news.
In Melbourne, Mel’s death was mentioned in the second segment of 7News. Sally Bowrey’s report mentioned Mel had a small role in Blue Heelers. Former MAFS contestants Jules Robinson and Cyrell Paule appeared in the report.
We’re about a month behind you guys in the UK, but presentation wise this is what Channel 4 (they used the sombre generic ident on E4) did before and after the episode when the news of Mel’s passing broke:
The sudden death of Married At First Sight star Mel Schilling stunned viewers across Australia, but many of her colleagues have now revealed they too had little idea how serious her illness had become.
In fact, Schilling herself was making big plans for the future until very recently, before her death on Tuesday aged 54 from terminal cancer.
Schilling underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy while continuing to work on the latest season of MAFS, with filming wrapping only last December.
Multiple colleagues have now spoken to The Sunday Telegraph about working with the 54-year-old in her final months, revealing her warmth and love of life somewhat hid to those around her the private pain she was enduring.
With all the leaks this year we pretty much know how it’s going to pan out.
It seems they have just given up going after anyone leaking, talking etc. Few years back they went hard on anyone who spoke but now it’s a case of find a couple who hasn’t spoken. I do have a feeling contracts will be tighter next year, definitely way too many speaking this year when they shouldn’t have. I know some productions hold financial incentives until the back end to prevent people going rogue.
Yeah I would almost certainly predict the final schedule go something like this.
This week: Final week of the experiment (Mon/Tues).
Next Week: Final dinner party (Monday), followed by the Final Vows the next couple of nights.
Week of 12th April: Reunion dinner party (Sunday) and Reunion couch session with experts (Monday).
This seems to happen every year. There are always 1 or 2 contestants that like to blatantly spoil things. It is always one of the contestants that is not liked by the public and/or don’t like how they have been portrayed on the show. Last season it was Jacqui. This season it’s Gia is openly and seems intentionally spoiling things.
Scott actually addressed Gia’s spoilers on ‘After the dinner party’ a couple of weeks ago, saying that it’s unfair to both viewers and the other contestants that everyone else puts things on hold for 3 months whilst airing but Gia only just spoils everything.
Final Vows are pretty boring and drawn out. Hopefully they’ve learnt and condensed them into an episode. They’d be so much better with less of the filler they usually have before them.
They are definitely trying to destroy some relationships in the final week and it seems to have worked for Scott and Gia.
The way that guy was coming for Gia last night, he must have really been talked up to try and get her to do something wrong. Otherwise I just couldn’t believe how over-confident and cocky he was without even knowing or meeting Scott, saying things like how he’s a much better man and would treat her better.
