Just imagine
From The Tourist
Those dual masthead set ups on tall lattice towers were not that uncommon in rural areas
Iâd love to know where that building is.
Where is it? Or where is it supposed to be based on the story?
It is supposed to be in the Flinders Ranges area with some filming at Peterborough SA.
Hereâs a Google street view of a similar setup in the region.
I used an old 5 element Hills Channel 0 antenna for DDQ-0 and TVNZ, and a Hills TL-4 was used for Channel 1 to 11 primarily. It was also useful when vertically polarised for dragging in Channel 3 and 5a Renmark via-tropo.
I had a wide band high gain yagi 0 -11. Plus one high gain 6-8 antenna pointed at Lismore and a 8-11 antenna pointed at Darling Downs for semi-permanent reception of 6.8 and 10. Yes I had a rotator.
Is there really such a thing?
Iâve always thought the more frequencies an antenna tries to cover, the less effective it becomes overall, thus wide band VHF antennas were only really suitable for good reception areas.
I have a a few different ones and technically they were probably more a Yagi - log periodic hybrid, but there were lot of wide band antennas designed for fringe reception that covered either 0-11 or just 0, 2, 7, 9 and 10. Later, some had UHF IV and V as well.
Mont Coffyn (NoumĂ©a) is also due to get a DVB-T2 multiplex at some point in the next few months on channel E45 (666.166MHz / 8MHz bandwidth). 1.05kW H pol. From info published on the French government site in the last few days - DĂ©cision n° 2024-41 du 17 janvier 2024 autorisant la sociĂ©tĂ© RĂ©seau outre-mer 1 (ROM 1) Ă utiliser une ressource radioĂ©lectrique pour le multiplexage des services de communication audiovisuelle diffusĂ©s par voie hertzienne terrestre en mode numĂ©rique sur le rĂ©seau outre-mer UHD (ROMU) dans les dĂ©partements dâoutre-mer, dans la collectivitĂ© de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, en Nouvelle-CalĂ©donie, en PolynĂ©sie française et dans le territoire de Wallis-et-Futuna - LĂ©gifrance (legifrance.gouv.fr)
This will carry France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD, itâs being rolled out in both metropolitan France and the overseas regions ready for the Olympics in Paris later this year. The version in metropolitan France uses more robust modulation parameters than the DVB-T muxes, so this is likely to be the case in New Caledonia etc too. That should make it easier to lock than the other mux in theory!
ChannelMaster used to import huge crossfire antennas from the USA for 0-11 reception. Think of them as oversized TL-4 log-periodic antennas.
CA-16 phased-array antennas with rear-mounted Band 1 gain lifters were quite popular, especially in Toowoomba etc to drag in Brisvegas TV when TVQ-0 was running.
Hills also had some 0-2/6-11 dual-band antennas that werenât bad either. Not much chop on Band 2 though.
And itâs completely dead this morning lol despite the decent looking charts
Something different (possibly) trying to make an appearance on this frequency in Renmark. Unsure if itâs CH44 Adelaide trying to show up as this strength usually decodes for that channel, could even be TEN Bendingo trying to sneak in
Currently getting Middle Brother ABC radio stations as good as I get Sydney.
Given I have permanent Sydney DTV reception, I just tried for Middle Brother DTV.
No luck, no signal at all.
Middle Brother DTV seems to be a difficult one to DX, despite pumping out 80kw vs Sydneyâs 50kw and having a height advantage (650 m vs 300 m), though offset by being further away (165 km vs 105 km).
First Mildura VHF DX of the season in Renmark, incorrect channel name and should say 10 despite rescans
Shows how much care Prime and WIN put into MilduraâŠ
Itâs an older Panasonic TV so thatâs likely why the names donât change properly
