Bungendore has been ranked 2nd on the Top 20 tree-change or sea-change destinations for First-Home Buyers according to ME Bank. @dxnerd

The top tree-change destinations for first-home buyers have been revealed, with the tiny town of Nairne in the Adelaide Hills topping the list.

Bungendore outside Canberra and Margaret River south of Perth took second and third spots in the ME Bank research, which shows the best regional towns for those looking to buy their first home.

I see the Macedon Ranges got a gong as well (but Woodend, not Trentham). Tassie was overlooked entirely, though it is somewhat of a nuclear option for those from the mainland wanting to escape the rat race.

I think they have all forgotten how HOT it gets in Queensland…

Still plenty of sun worshippers in this country, and plenty of investors willing to have them as tenants…

PS- if you worship the sun and don’t care for heat, consider Bungendore or Cooma! Sunnier than many parts of Queensland, especially in summer. Cooma is actually drier and sunnier than many places further inland such as Wagga Wagga. This is due to the rain shadow effect of the Snowy Mountains.

Canberra becoming a popular place to live for those escaping from a big city, but still want to live in a decent-sized capital city.

“In the space of six months, the ACT has jumped from having the second-weakest net overseas migration figures in the nation to the strongest,” the report read.

“The capital has also jumped from the weakest net interstate migration figures in the nation to the strongest, in a single quarter.”

There was a strong chance that the state border closure forced many Canberrans to stay put while many Victorians and residents of NSW decided to make the move to the capital, the report added.

Whilst in Tassie, you could also buy half a village for a fair bargain.

Great for those of us that have real estate in the regions, but I do feel for those people who are trying to either get into the real estate market or are looking for a place to rent.

I’m toying with the idea of moving to the NSW far north coast - it wasn’t too long ago that prices around Tweed Heads were surprisingly affordable, but those days are looking very limited.

God, I hate the trend of having no walls separating bedrooms and ensuites. I’m self-conscious enough about sounds and smells as it is, walls aren’t a barrier I’m willing to part with!

Internal migration numbers for 2020 were widely different from the past for many states and cities.

Australia’s regional areas have had their largest net inflow of people since the Australian Bureau of Statistics started measuring internal migration in 2001.

I thought The Australian’s take on the same numbers a bit off the market when it describes the 98 people that moved to SA as a “surge”
