Interesting enough, Sandilands actually said he would rather go to jail than be told what to do.
Hmm interesting, I’d rather go to jail than listen to Kyle and Jackie O..
Speaking of that…
KIIS line up this week (SYD/MEL/BNE)
6-9am Kyle and Jackie O best bits (SYD/MEL)
Robin and Kip (BNE)
9am-12pm Petho
12-3pm Kat Markey
3-4pm The Pick Up
4-6pm Will and Woody best bits
6-7pm KJ Hour of Power
7-8pm KIIS Mix
Some of the KJ best bits had been played twice.
Well they don’t have many best bits
Shouldnt that be worst bits… ive never known them to have best bits
They’d surely have to repeat a lot of their “best” bits given how frequently they are away.
For anyone that tunes in, how long do they go normally without any breaks, inbetween standard survey breaks?
Not enough new content so they have to have the best of the best bits.
And I wonder how regular listeners put up with hearing the same old content over and over…
I heard that Robbie Williams interview this morning which was played also last week
My thoughts exactly.
Which loyal fans are going “oh yay another batch of re-repeats!! I wonder if they’ll play one of his recent walkouts?!”
Never quite understood what their appeal is when they maintain such a lousy work ethic for the slop they do produce.
K&J only have the ratings drawcard to justify their huge salaries, but seeing how Melbourne went, I wonder how long it is before these two fall out of favour with ARN and their contract is ended.
Would any other network be stupid enough to platform them again for perceived ratings gain? or are the risks associated with them far too high now?
My thoughts exactly! Surely they’re now a proven failure outside Sydney. Why would any network even try to roll them out nationally now?
SCA might want them back, but surely only for 2DAY. They would be insane to try to roll them out nationally.
I think for ARN it’s an expensive double edged sword both losing them and also keeping them. Without K&J, ARN effectively loses half of their presence in Sydney, and the vast majority of their 25-54 advertiser dollars.
I want to see what happens if ARN calls Kyle’s bluff, ARN literally have nothing else to lose..
ARN are probably begging them to take sick days to save money
Wondering if it would be feasible to roll out K&J nationally on an existing digital station, and simultaneously keep them in Sydney on KIIS whilst reinstating a Melbourne breakfast show.
It wouldn’t be the best use of the contract, but it would potentially stop the haemorrhaging in Melbourne.
Why is it feasible in other cities when it has failed in Melbourne?
They’re not a national product. Sydney have grown up with them over almost three decades. Kyle just doesn’t resonate or connect with a generation who never grew up with his antics.
They are also heavily persevered as “Sydney”. K&J going up against other local shows (in other markets) won’t work.
While I don’t think K&J will ever resonate outside of Sydney, this would have been by far the smartest approach!
Put them on DAB only outside of Sydney on a national KIIS branded DAB station to test the waters before damaging any FM stations. They were complete idiots for not doing that. They have absolutely damaged 101.1 in Melbourne, and also 97.3 in Brisbane. Whilst the 97.3 breakfast show is still around for now, the radical music format shift on 97.3 and the networking of everything outside of breakfast has really hurt 97.3
If you’re ARN, I wonder whether you adopt a broad view of KJ’s much speculated national syndication. By this I mean, instead of getting caught up in the minutia of single city results, the focus for sales, PR and marketing becomes purely national.
Below are some back of the beer coaster maths. For all markets, aside from Sydney, I’ve used the same cumulative audience percentage (9.6%) that KJ pulled in Melbourne during the most recent survey.
SYDNEY … n/a … 753,000
MELBOURNE … 9.6% … 476,000
BRISBANE … 9.6% … 221,280
ADELAIDE … 9.6% … 117,216
PERTH … 9.6% … 183,360
HOUR OF POWER … 600,000
PODCAST … 330,913
TOTAL: 2,681,769
KJ’s numbers then become ‘MAFS Level’ numbers for ARN, which then get pushed and sold as ‘success’ to all facets of the business.
Obviously, what I’ve written is completely speculative and I have no info of ARN actually considering doing this … but it wouldn’t be their worst idea.
