Except Kyle and Jackie O!
KIIS 106.5 and CADA 96.1 are both having audio issues with it dropping out every few seconds. WSFM seems fine however.
Because they read Mediaspy, that’s proof.
Who writes this rubbish at Radioinfo?
No one in Melbourne outside of radio was talking about a middling Brisbane radio show.
KIIS 1065 are having some sort of issues at this moment… they are playing automated music for more than 30 mins now.
Seems the new Sydney studios have been a technical trainwreck so far. And because everything’s networked these days, it’s also affecting KIIS 101.1.
It appears to be a country wide issue. Issues are happing at the MMMs and the hit network
Global cyber incident relating to CrowdStrike. Affecting Nova, SCA, KIIS and many other commercial radio & tv - alongside airlines etc etc.
Hayley will co-host the show (still called Max and Ali In the Morning) from next Monday, July 29.
Soo, it hasn’t been mentioned here yet, but since Monday 1st July 2024, 97.3 in Brisbane has been doing 90s at 9. Basically straight after Robin & Kip each morning at around 9am for about 30 mins, they play only 90s music. It’s still Gordie from Sydney back announcing the songs, but it’s something that’s being exclusively done for Brisbane (since K&J are still going at that time in Sydney/Melbourne).
Let’s just say, in my opinion, this 30 minutes of music is by far the best music they play on the station all day, by a long long way. It’s a bit of a throwback to the types of songs they’d include in their regular playlist throughout the day and night before they started taking the Sydney feed for 19 hours a day (24 hours a day on weekends) on April 8th 2024. I know the Sydney feed includes KIIStory throwbacks of some late 90s songs too sometimes, but this is next level really.
Here’s the song listings for a couple of the days (July 9th, 10th and 11th):
July 9th 2024
Cher - The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s In His Kiss)
Shania Twain - That Don’t Impress Me Much
George Michael - Freedom! '90
New Radicals - You Get What You Give
CDB - Let’s Groove
Stars On 54 / Ultra Nate / Amber / Jocelyn Enriquez - If You Could Read My Mind
Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You
Spice Girls - Spice Up Your Life
Counting Crows - Mr. Jones
July 10th 2024
Jimmy Barnes - Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
Aqua - Barbie Girl
Hootie & The Blowfish - Let Her Cry
Haddaway - What Is Love
Janet Jackson - Together Again
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge
Roxette - Joyride
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
Charles & Eddie - Would I Lie To You?
July 11th 2024
MC Hammer - U Can’t Touch This
Robbie Williams - Angels
Ace of Base - All That She Wants
Pearl Jam - Daughter
The Corrs - Runaway
The Four Seasons Feat. Franki Valli - December 1963 (oh What A Night) [92 Single Remix]
Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Life
Destiny’s Child - Say My Name
Bryan Adams / Melanie C - When You’re Gone
The vast majority of those 90s songs (in my opinion) are pretty great songs and are certainly different from the Sabrina Carpenter, Eminem, Taylor Swift, Benson Boone, Myles Smith and Cyril songs that get repeated consistently from the Sydney feed these days. Some of the songs from those artist are good (except Eminem, that’s just rap), but the music from the Sydney feed is majority modern music and feels like an extremely small pool of songs as compared to pre April 8th when Brisbane had it’s own playlist with 80s, 90 and modern music.
Hearing songs again like Jimmy Barnes’ Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and Charles & Eddie’s Would I Lie To You on 97.3 again is great. I also had to look up December 1963 (oh What A Night) because I thought that was a 70’s song and was confused how it made it into a 90’s music slot - but turns out the version 97.3 plays is a 90’s remix, so it technically counts. I must say though, compared to many song remixs, this one is rather subtle, the 70’s original and the 90’s remix sound very very similar.
Anyway, I’m curious as to what’s driven this 90s at 9 segment to commence on 97.3 recently and am very curious on any politics behind it. Is it because of ratings or feedback from the public about the changes in April? Is it Brisbane management trying to exert some influence over the few local hours that are left on the station? What will happen in October when Daylight Saving starts in Sydney - will the Sydney feed be live from 9am AEST/10am AEDT (and therefore this goes away) or will they just air the Sydney feed on a 1 hour delay?
Anyway, all I know is that this 1/2 hour of music sounds very different to the rest of the station and I really like it.
It’s a good idea. And I would say it’s due to the very negative feedback on the music change since April.
This is exactly what Nova do but they do it from 9-10am. KIIS have literally copied them.
Ohhh interesting. I don’t listen to Nova at all, so I didn’t know that, but interesting.
I really think KIIS 97.3 will continue to slide in the ratings unless they abandon this push to be a Nova and B105 clone. Although ARN are so arrogant they’ll probably have to learn the hard way.
Change it to Gold 973 and watch it come first by next year.
Exactly. It’s such a no brainer if they want to lead the market. The music could still skew a bit younger than WS or Gold 104, but a Pure Gold format is what’s missing in Brisbane - not a 3rd CHR station.
Not that I think ARN’s strategy is a good fit for the market, but I’m not sure this would be an overnight success given that 4MMM and 4BH are firing on all cylinders right now.
You’d need a complete rethink of the station including talent, and maybe even poaching Laurel, Gary and Mark back from 4BC (though I’ll leave it to the Brisbaneites to tell me if that’s a sensible thought).
