It’s big alright. First we lost power. Then we had a brownout. Appliances were trying to restart but failed. Lights were dim. Now we have a blackout.

That will throw the ABC’s network schedule into chaos. Queensland and SA viewers are supposed to see the opening ceremony on delay, but the one hour delay means they will get the chance to see the event live.

EDIT: all the VIPs and teams are now seated and the opening ceremony commences at 8.45pm AEDT. Masters of ceremonies are Kumi Taguchi (Compass host) and Nate Byrne (ABC News Breakfast weather presenter).

Despite the delayed start, ABC are still showing the opening ceremony delayed into Queensland.

Delayed by how much? Is the ABC in Queensland showing the repeats of Australian Story and You Can’t Ask That like NSW and VIC just had, during the one-hour weather delay?

Delayed in South Australia too:

Delayed by a full hour in Queensland - pathetic ABC.

The ABC just introduced the CEO of Jaguar Land Rover as a loyal sponsor of the Invictus Games. Fair enough that the main sponsor is acknowledged, I think, as without sponsors the event wouldn’t happen.

Awesome setup for Invictus Games Today! Love the set. Does anyone know if this is an actual telecast booth? Looks massive if so.

David Beckham live on Invictus Games Today

Tonight at 8pm

ABC is excited to announce Invictus Games Sydney 2018 ambassador David Beckham will appear on Invictus Games Today tonight at 8pm on ABC and ABC iview.

We will catch up with Beckham at the athletics track to talk about his role as an Invictus Games Sydney 2018 ambassador, what the Invictus Games mean to him, and the importance of family and friends. As an ex-elite sportsman, we will chat to him about the power of sport for the competitors’ road to recovery.

David is one of the world’s most respected sporting champions. He is the first English football player to win league titles in four countries: England, Spain, the United States and France. He retired in May 2013 after a 20-year career, during which he won 19 major trophies.

Also, on tonight’s show, Dylan Alcott shows Dave Hughes a thing or two about wheelchair tennis, Lehmo heads to the archery, plus there’s a re-cap of the bone-crunching final of the wheelchair rugby.
