Not sure where to post this, but cudos to the team at The Wave in Mandurah. Quality wise, one of the best Australian radio streams. Excellent audio processing, great codec and bitrate (I’m unable to see the specifics, but by ear it sounds very clean on RadioApp). Programming is good too.

Does anyone have the link for smooth fm Melbourne?

Can be found on this post below:

Thanks…

Yeah, Wave 91.7 is a great station. Similar to how XL/GN sounded before going safer. I probably should listen more often than I do.

Had to split this into 2 parts because on my end it says I can only put 5 links in a post, but how can a quote from another user count as a link? Lol.

Oops, just discovered that the link I attached for Stereo 10 is actually to the station ID haha!

Here’s the actual stream: https://s47.myradiostream.com:15787/stream

Just gotten around to trying one of the local streams (Triple M Townsville).

Works great!

Using VLC on Windows, it gives song notifications and I get to hear all the local ads as they would appear to go to air in Townsville (that’s what I hate most about using Listnr, plus the pre-roll ads). Sounds great too.

If anyone knows where I can get a link for the nine radio talk streams that I can play in VLC, that would be great. Insurance Australia Group have instilled in me a deep hatred of the Beatles song “Help” for the past few months with their pre-roll spam, sorry, advertising.

These still have pre-roll ads unfortunately but reliably work in VLC.

Unfortunately for the ARN Regional iHeart streams, it’s pre-roll ads only (when the broadcast feed’s ad breaks are on), meaning I cannot hear ads for e.g: Launceston through Chilli FM.

Doesn’t matter how many times I stop and start the stream during the ad breaks, it’s just pre-roll ads and not the broadcast feed. Seems the ad feeds in these ARN Regional streams on iHeart are totally encrypted, meaning there’s no chance of listening to any regional ads, the only exceptions being Grant’s Geelong stations. I could only imagine it being the same for those stream links.

But are there any links for the ARN Regional streams without the pre-roll ads please? Cheers.

That would be the way it’s programmed to display to the listener.

This is pretty common these days.

Stations using Triton Digital send triggers at the start and end of the spot blocks. Triton replaces the ads per-listener with whatever inventory is available at the time. This is all handled server-side so there’s no way around it on the client.

In the US it’s even more sophisticated. When listening to KROQ HD2 (LA) and WXRT (Chicago) using a Seattle server, I get ads for the Seattle area.

That happens in Australia too. If you listen to 2GB in Victoria for example you get a lot of the 3AW advertisers and vice versa. Even SCA’s premium regional advertisers seems to pop up on any of the Listnr and metro-SCA stations when you listen in a regional area.

I say “premium” as it appears to often only be the same 2-3 local Bendigo or Gippsland ads that pop up when I’m listening to Triple M’s AFL streams in regional Victoria. So they must sell an advertising package that guarantees their ad will be inserted on Listnr streams and not just on the local stations.

On Kayo I have had local Canberra ads for a while- not that it’s news to most in here. Like most I prefer to hear the in market ads, though all advertising these days is obnoxious.

I notice that the ads when watching a TV channel via streaming are different to the ones you see when watching it over the air.

The most interesting local ad I heard was on a US based podcast. The guy just went straight from the podcast to reading an ad about the Vic Market (here in Melbourne).

Living in a non-SCA area, I’ve noticed I get a lot of ads for Port Macquarie which would be the closest SCA station
