Channel 4 will broadcast Africa Cup of Nations live from Morocco, from December 21 to January 18 next year. Itâs the first time the tournament is shown live on FTA in Britain.

If only there were a media company for sale with a networks division that already broadcasts the EPL⊠oh wait, there is â but the potential buyer only wants the entertainment IP.
Anyway, TNT Sports would be the perfect pickup for anyone looking to bolster their streaming lineup and take their sports offering to the HBâ oh sorry, I mean to the max.
Not in the USA it doesnât, so not really a direct comparison.
I was suggesting that if Netflix had acquired TNT Sports, it wouldâve significantly strengthened their position to bid for the EPL rights in the USâespecially since TNT already hold part of the rights in the UK through their existing partnership. It wouldâve created a unified, cross-market foothold that made their case much more compelling.
I doubt that it would make the slightest bit of difference in all honesty.
Read this as what people should expect so that they donât resort to piracy.

TNT Sports has been confirmed as live UK broadcast partner for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The subscription channel takes over from the BBC which had been the main partner since 1954 and provided free-to-air coverage for 18 games in a row.
TNT Sports is part of Warner Bros Discovery and is best known for screening Uefa Champions League matches as well as selected English Premier League fixtures.
The Glasgow Commonwealth Games will take place from 23 July to 2 August and feature 10 sports and six para sports.
TNT Sports said it would provide more than 600 hours of live coverage in a âre-imaginingâ of the games.
The broadcaster said every sport and event would be streamed on HBO Max, which is due to launch in the UK and Ireland in March.
The BBC will be disappointed that it will not be showing full live TV coverage of the Commonwealth Games.
But the bigger issue is not about the fact BBC Television wonât have live coverage.
It is about the fact the games will not be shown live in full on any major free-to-air TV channel
There will still be highlights on a major free TV channel and some live coverage on a major channel may still be possible.
But without the full live coverage on a channel which everyone can watch for free, will there be the same sense of wider public engagement or feeling that the Games are a special time for Glasgow and Scotland?
TNT also has the UK rights for next yearâs Winter Olympics in Milan following last yearâs merger with Warner Bros-owned Eurosport, as well as the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, part of which will also be shown by the BBC. Having recently lost the rights to the Champions League and international rugby TNT regard securing the Games as a coup.
The decision of Commonwealth Sport, who run the Games, to prioritise revenue over reach reflects their financial problems ahead of an event that has been beset by difficulties and could have been cancelled altogether.

As for the FTA rights, theyâll most likely end up on Quest.
If the BBC wonât be able to show Glasgow 2026 live on FTA in Britain, I wonder if it will still bother to bid for the radio rights.
Just as the games appeared to be rising from the dead theyâve gone and hammered the final nail in their own coffin.
