International Sports Presentation

Makes you wonder why they bother sending them if they are essentially calling from a studio… I know the Formula 1 world feed is done from London (even the British Grand Prix is from the studio).

It adds to the authenticity of the call. They also have depth of understanding after being in the paddock the whole weekend. They also at times have commented on what they’re seeing outside the windows not just off monitors. There’s no substitute for being at the venue for sports events.

No I agree, but that clearly doesn’t matter to the bosses as we’ve seen here in Aus.

Some graphics for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Hong Kong Masters. Since 2022, Hong Kong has been part of the world tour cities, and the host broadcasters this year continued to be Hoy TV (FTA Ch.77) and the newly-renamed Hoy IBC (Ch.76). I only captured the tail end of the final match:

The scoreboard has a new style that put the tournament logo up front.

Challenges and penalties are on the right hand side of the screen.

The final score.

The roadmap towards the final match.

The lower thirds for individual athele.

For comparison, these were last year’s graphics.

There are sports where this is definitely true, but im not 100% convinced that motorsport is one - especially for a sport like F1 where Sky has zero input into the makeup of the race coverage.

I’ve seen some of the F1TV coverage and it’s just as good (and you wouldn’t necessarily know it was a remote call).

With Spark Sport shutting down, TVNZ has taken over as New Zealand’s home cricket broadcaster this summer, TVNZ are showing all home cricket (Test, T20 and ODI) live and free-to-air.

Not much of a change from what was on Spark Sport, almost the same commentary team, and presenters. Score graphics have been updated to use TVNZ colours. While Whisper remains as the production partner for the coverage.

Few screenshots from the White Ferns match on Sunday.

Bit of a shame there wasn’t much of a refresh both in graphics and presentation. The graphics very much follow Whisper’s template though.

Wow that is the exact same!

I’m pretty sure Spark still have the rights currently (it’s just sublicensed to TVNZ rather than them running Spark Sport themselves, they called it a “content partnership”*) so I’m not surprised the graphics haven’t changed materially.

(* Similar to how the UEFA club competition rights that went to beIN Sports for this coming year was described as a one-year sublicence deal, which was the remaining year Spark had for that)

Maybe they might consider some more wholesale changes the following summer.

Not quite - the rights have transferred to TVNZ officially on this one. Spark are paying the rights fee however. I think it was the international deals where they had to sub-licence.

Aaah, thanks for the clarification on that.

…the league’s first-ever commercial-free fourth quarter, promising “a groundbreaking fan experience” with a reduction in standard NFL ad load of over 40% resulting in more than 12 minutes of additional game-related content.

The move is possible thanks in large part to presenting sponsors Capital One, Hyundai and Walmart, the media giant said.

ESPN will show this match live on Sunday (Christmas Eve) at 12pm AEDT in Australia, and 2pm in New Zealand.
