Nope, don’t like that VTM rebrand at all. The old look was excellent and could have run for a lot longer. That new backdrop is awful. In the close-ups it looks like the presenter is sat in a virtual studio (she isn’t). The music is weak and the intro is very nothing-y. Old intro was far superior (even if it did zoom onto the UK rather than Belgium :person_facepalming:). 3/10.

NHK Newsline now from New York?

They’ve done some bulletins from New York for a while now. Not quite sure when it started being a regular thing, and I’m not sure what dictates the hours either.

Looks like quite a good little studio space:

Back to TVP Info, or I should say… TVP | info_, as the Polish news channel unveils a new brand identity (that completely hurls the corporate logo out of the window), new graphics (that changes the station bug into a much larger one, minutes into their early news) and a new studio at Woronicza Street.

The set first debuted at the end of the 19.30 bulletin last night:

The full reveal on the early morning news:

Their report on the new set:

And the premiere edition of the 4pm newscast, Dzień w godzinę (Day in an Hour).

Honestly, I approve the TVP changes for their news & information service. This is by far the most highly approved changes for the main news channel TVP Info, better than in the PiS era.

However, I don’t approve the changes of identities for TVP Info. The logo and idents, among all are somehow quite child-like (especially, the clocky IDs). TVP, afaik, has a time using their customized typeface, just like the BBC or CCTV has been done so far. Sadly, they don’t use it for the whole network as the BBC is doing at the moment.

Tbh, I’m really looking forward for the TVP leaders to adapt and using their customized typeface for the whole network. I also see this fanmade graphics useable and easy to handle on the overall news network like TVP Info.

In some positive news (for once) regarding local TV news in Canada, the CBC is expanding local and regional news coverage across the country.

Among the big highlights:

  • New separate late night provincial newscasts will be re-instated for CBC Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador. They will air at 11 PM AT in NS, NB, and PEI, and 11:30 PM NT in Newfoundland & Labrador.
UPDATE: It turns out these new late night newscasts are a cut down version of the 6 PM broadcast (at least for Nova Scotia).

  • Twelve new 24/7 regional FAST channels, available on CBC Gem and the CBC News app, have launched for Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Windsor, Ottawa, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Northern Canada. These join the existing regional FAST services for BC and Toronto, as well as CBC News Explore.

All CBC regional FAST news channels have adopted the new look (seen below).

In terms of FAST channels, CBC’s suite of regional FAST channels join Global News’s set of local streaming news channels (13 local + 1 national), and CityNews 24/7 (BC, Alberta, Toronto).

How many local and national streaming news channels in Canada from the 3 networks now in total?

CBC: 14 regional, 1 national
Global: 12 regional, 1 national
CityNews: 3 regional
CTV: 1 regional (CP24 without cable subscription) + 1 national

33 total.

Also, it appears that CBC has sacrificed a bunch of their live 11 PM newscasts to either save money or to use those resources for the FAST channel. As of me checking last night, CBC Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton have live 11 PM newscasts. CBC Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, and Nova Scotia have a cut down version of their 6 PM news airing at 11.

Someone explain to me how Canada has 33 fast news channels and Australia has zero.

Both huge countries with small populations and similar tv industry economics

I think it’s because we’re only really starting to do FAST channels in the local market now with 9now and sbs OD and 7plus. We’re just a bit slow on the uptake. Maybe we’ll have some news FAST channels in the next couple of years.

Seven have had FAST channels for years & years now and were very quick to implement these locally, 10 really came next and have had some for a couple of years already, SBS & Nine were a bit slower on the uptake of them and then the ABC.

Given Seven & 10 have had them for some time and given the resources available to them, Seven with many hours of original news content and 10 with their Para ownership and CBS content to supplement their limited original news content - there really is no excuse.

They may be similar in size, but very different structurally.

Canadian stations face intense competition from outlets in the US. These stations are accessible to Canadians and in some cases offer local advertising. The kitty available to the Canadian broadcasters is far more diluted than here. This has been a long term matter.

The advent of more FAST channels could be a reflection of this - the need to innovate somewhat faster and be more “nimble.”

Often the competition and simulcasting of some prime time shows is reflected in the local schedules of stations in small markets too.

While there are similarities I don’t think population on its own makes Canada an equal comparison here.

I also think the US stations have influenced the amount of local news stations here have on their schedules. Most stations have the usual 6 PM and 11 PM newscasts, but bigger ones will have noon, 5 PM, mornings; and for the really big stations, weekend mornings and noon.

If it wasn’t for that, I think Canadian stations would be similar to Australia where you’d only find a local 6 PM bulletin, and the rest would be national.

Obviously cost cutting move - will Your Morning relocate to CTV’s studios too? IIRC they’re at another location entirely?

How does Your Morning rate? I wonder if it’s days are numbered given most major CTV stations do their own Morning Live and with CP24 having a local show in Toronto, YM may not have a purpose?

Franceinfo is to debut a new look in December 13, according to Jean-Baptiste Marteau on the morning programme, La Martinale.

Their last update was in 2021, when they introduced new flat openers.

Although the rest of the new HQ is still under construction, P7S1’s new Newstime studio quietly debuted in late September, using the 22-meter curved LED wall as the headlines sequence:
