I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! (Ten)

When did I’m a celeb first start? I would have thought Temptation would have been long gone by then?

Temptation finished in early 2009, while I’m A Celeb started here in 2015. It has been running in the UK since 2002, however.

I remember of talks of an Australian version well before it was actually green lit

“I’m devastated,” she told Nova 96.9’s Ricki-Lee & Tim.

But she said rested was “good” because it gave her hope that the show wasn’t being completely tossed in the bin.

Julia also revealed what she told Channel 10 after the decision was made.

“I also said to them, ‘You have my blessing, whatever form it comes back in, and whoever is at the helm… you’re not going to hurt my feelings,’” she told the radio hosts.

The comedian and presenter added that she hadn’t heard any whispers that Ten or another network was planning to revive it at another stage with new hosts.

You can hear more from Julia on the podcast.

Wow. You have my blessing? They don’t need your blessing Julia. It’s not your show. Strange thing to say.

Not really. It just shows she had no hard feelings against the decision. Plus, taking that approach means she keeps a good relationship with the network and they can keep her in mind for any other potential future roles.

She also mentioned that she has another presenting role on a show for the ABC called Class Clowns.

Julia Morris is on the cover of Stellar liftout inside News Corp papers today.

An excerpt from the podcast interview with Stellar’s Sarrah Le Marquand:

Stellar: Last year you celebrated 40 years on TV. Here you are with your fifth Gold Logie nomination. But it’s also a bittersweet and sad time, in that I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! – the show you helmed for 12 years – has been shelved. How does this moment feel?

Julia Morris: The problem with the jungle is it was such an exquisite experience that it’s still ricocheting around our nervous systems to the point where … it’s not that we haven’t accepted that we’re more than likely not going back. Our bodies refuse to accept it. I’ve practically already got the bags out. I’m still walking through shops, seeing shades of leopard print that I adore and thinking, Oh, do I need that for the jungle? Only two days ago, I was like, Oh, no, I must stop doing that. You’ve got 12 seasons, 12 years, to unlearn.

It was a joy. For 12 years, I’ve missed the first day of school. But my kids aren’t at school anymore, so I must have missed somebody’s whole schooling, right? We’re very sad to see it go. But also, it filled our marrow with joy for a long time. It’s not one of those situations in TV where we’re like, “How very dare you?” Of course we’re disappointed. I’m always sad about money because I’m always panicking, [due to] being a working comic for most of my life, up until the jungle, or maybe House Husbands [the drama series in which she starred from 2012 to 2017]. I was churn-to-burn to eat; you don’t work, you don’t eat. It’s only sort of coming into the jungle that sent me into that next section of TV performers where you look like you’ve got it more together than you have.

So Robert Irwin announced as host of Australian Ninja Warrior on 10 means those rumours he would join 7 have been debunked.

Perhaps 7 will reunite Julia and the Bondi Vet?

If he’s not on a network contract then I guess there’s nothing stopping from hosting two shows across two networks.

Sam Pang is a good example of this

There is a massive difference between someone hosting a sports panel show and a chat show for two different networks and someone hosting two flagship reality shows.

Is there a difference? Both Have You Been Paying Attention? And The Front Bar both rate extremely well and are often up there with the reality shows these days.

Yes, because they are in two completely different categories, whereas ANW and IAC aren’t.

I really don’t think that makes any difference if I’m honest. He’s still appearing on primetime television on two different networks. The type of show doesn’t matter at all.

Tom Gleeson presents Taskmaster on 10 and Hard Quiz on ABC which are a similar genre and nobody cares.

Not sure what Irwin’s contract would’ve looked like at 10, but Seven not being able to nab him somehow for Celebrity could be its biggest undoing.

The obvious is Dr Chris back and continue his DWTS pairing with Sonia, but hard to see this going down well with many viewers (especially Kruger and given how oversaturated she was recently), nor replicating the original chemistry of Chris + Julia or even Julia + Robert.

It would be ironic if Ninja Warrior was slotted up against I’m A Celebrity.

In that situation though, nobody really cares because one of the parties is the ABC, so for one half there isn’t a commercial incentive.

The point I am making here is that IAC and ANW are both tentpole primetime reality competition shows. There is no way it would make commercial sense for anybody to allow someone to host both. You want that person to be available at the times set aside for filming and you want them to place their focus on promoting the show while it is airing.

10 did say they planned to do more shows with Robert Irwin and he has an idea for a wildlife show they are keen to produce. When he was asked about this recently, he said that he still plans to do it but has been way too busy with other projects to commit to it.
