What does the new  emoji add? Surely an angry/confused/thumbs down would have been better, if anything?

I agree. I cannot think of any scenario where the new emoji would be appropriate?

Would be cool if Discourse implemented a “Facebook-like” reaction system with the following to replace the current “Heart” + “Emoji” system:

  • Like
  • Angry
  • Heart
  • Sad
  • Laughter

Is there a way we can change anything on here or not?

Also, was this a MediaSpy approved/led/backed change or was the the website providers?

It is a temporary change in response to the return yesterday of a MS newsreader favourite who signs off bulletins with a wink.

I think a thumbs down would be better than a winky. Many sites have them, like YouTube.

I get the joke and have followed it for a while but I don’t think it was the best idea to put it up. It doesn’t add anything to the site except for being part of an inside joke of a few members.

IMO we need a sad option.

We had one. It got misused.
Mainly by a certain 7 fan who used to post here and would use that react whenever anything vaguely negative relating to 7 would be posted or whenever something positive happened for another network.

The difference is we are first and foremost a discussion group, not a social media platform. When we had the negative emojis like angry and thumbs down, some members would often use them without explanation which drew complaints and would steer the discussion off topic. We’re talking Seven fans using thumbs down on any Nine-related discussion, things like that. We made the decision to at least remove the negative reacts to encourage people to actually post if they had an opposing opinion, because again, we are discussion group.

He says whilst spamming “

F off @OnAir .

I’d like to say I’m sorry for encouraging the creation of this reaction.

I’d like to, but I’m not sorry.

You’re clean mate @Bort2.0… I mean @AustralianAerial.

Literally laughing at my office desk at the memory of going into a thread where Mitchell N*ck would have just added a massive string of crying emojis for no real reason other than something was Nine related.

Discourse, the software that runs the site, has many options to customise the site. However, all these changes are up to the mods and cannot be changed by users. The mods here have done a great job at doing so.

One thing I always thought would be cool if the site would utilise the news plugin available for some of the ratings thread to make the landing page more alive. Seen here is my concept from the December rebrand:

I wonder if there is a way or current plugin to streamline the current react system so everything is under the one button?

Yeah, by ‘we’ I meant the Mediaspy community, by poll/vote/mutiny/uprising/etc.
The ability to suggest something (eg adding :-1: as a reaction, adding dark mode, new ranks, whatever), it gaining enough likes/votes and then being put the entire forum to vote on, similar to how we chose a new logo last year.

You forgot a string of eyeroll and angry emojis earlier last year when people said Married at First Sight was great and MKR sucked.

Your poor colleagues :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
