Oh it’s been mentioned. Too late to the party.
Could they go the way of MasterChef and not have a host at all? Surely the 3 judges could introduce challenges and read results etc.
That door yet again seemed a drama over nothing. As soon as they showed the drawing it was clear all they had to do was move the void from one side of the room to the other to fix it - no big drama at all but of course presented in the show as this big disaster.
As for the study table - shame they were screwed over by a supplier but ultimately an issue here was that the house was designed for nobody specific. A quiet place with storage for books and a comfy chair for reading is just as valid an interpretation of a study as a desk IMO.
What I actually found odd was the library inside the Master Bedroom - not my idea of a “Masters Retreat” at all.
I found out the winning team right after Tuesday’s MasterChef grand final, but tonight was the first time I got to sit down to catch up on the finale itself. I didn’t like the producers skipping over basically the first five days of renovation and concentrate on the final three days (the seven days of renovation starts on afternoon of day 1 and finishes on afternoon of day 8). I doubt renovation went smoothly during those five days. The low ratings of The Super Switch meant the producers had to squeeze in the whole reno into one episode, leaving quite a lot of footage on the cutting room floor.
I agree with the judges that the entrance (Lisa and Andy) and the open study next to it (Tim and Mat) cost them valuable points. Pete and Courtney won because they made the least mistakes while successfully interpreting the house rules.
This season is the most enjoyable season not only because of the addition of Jamie Durie, but also there was no villain team. The six teams were friendly towards one another, and worked harmoniously most of the time. Lisa brought a lot of fun and silliness to brighten up the show, I think she has a good future in the media if she doesn’t want to be a flight attendant.
After the very first renovation, all the furniture was donated to charity. What happens to the furniture and decorations in the loft apartment after the grand final? Will Seven sell the warehouse and find another building for the home base?
I think it would make sense to leave the first floor as it is and renovate the ground floor as the first round next season, rather than demolishing the first floor again, then I think they should sell the building after the ground floor is finished. Constantly redoing the same space is a waste of materials.
How did The Super Switch failing have anything to do with reducing the number of episodes in the last week? Didn’t they say the last challenge was shorter? There were less teams to show in the last week which explains why there was less “drama” to show.
Exactly - if anything The Super Switch failing would have given them the opportunity to flesh it out further. It’s spending so long on the judging which cuts the reno edit short (in every round), but I think the show benefitted from The Super Switch being axed and going back up to three night a week, so basically a reno per week. If felt far less stretched out in the final stages than it has done in some previous series, and that’s even with the gardens now over four weeks when in early series they were sometimes done in just the one.
Skipping over the first few days of the reno though is something producers do for every reno and it does annoy, though suspect much of it is quite boring demo and prep work. It does make it look like though the teams do nothing until day 4.
Agree though about the show being much better without designated “villians”, though I do think they played the fun side of Lisa up far too much to a point where it was actually disrespectful to her and dismissing any of her skills in design.
As for the next series - I have wondered about an All Star series, but rather than doing their own homes again making a charity series renovating for some families in need, as that angle does work quite well for the show. Could have all teams at all renos or link each All Star team (which might not necessarily have been paired up originally) with a project in their area. Now would be the perfect time to do it with Jo leaving, so bringing in familar faces makes sense.
Not a fan of All Star shows. Rather they just tweak it to keep it fresh and new.
Lisa has already said she wants to be on Home and Away.
Contrasting articles on why Johanna Griggs quit House Rules.
EDIT: Aaron and Daniella’s family house has been listed on realestate.com.au
Season 6 winners Toad Heffernan and Mandy Stone tied the knot on September 14. They invited Joh, Carolyn, Katie and Alex from season 7, and season 6 teams Kim and Michelle, Josh and Brandon, and Chiara and David to the wedding.
Wendy Moore has announced on her Instagram today that she is leaving the show.
That’s a contrast from her interview with Mediaweek editor James Manning earlier this week in which she said she would stay on as a judge, as a condition of her joining Foxtel as head of lifestyle.
Wendy’s full message:
So…. After seven incredible years on the amazing show that is House Rules, it is time to say goodbye. I have loved every single moment and am really proud to have worked on a show that has literally changed lives and inspired us all to take on big, scary challenges. I have made so many friends, seen so many parts of Australia and learnt so much that I will always be grateful to Channel Seven for. How lucky was I to work with the superwoman @johgriggs7 from the very beginning, the incredible (or incorrigible) @llewelynbowen , who is also the ultimate gentleman, my first partner-in-crime @joesnelldesign, and of course the loveable @drewheatharchitect , the #tdp @carolynburnsmcc – all of whom I still call friends – and lastly my final year working with the pocket-rocket @jamiedurie (after more than 20 years of knowing each other). Obviously all the contestants over the last seven years are the people that have put their heart and soul on the line to make House Rules what it is – and I love that I still talk to many of them years after their series is over. But there’s also the super-talented crew – camera, sound and everything in between - who absolutely love this show and put everything into it. Thank you thank you thank you to @lisasoames_makeup and @rosietrindall – I am so lucky to have been doing this with you!
Of course it’s always sad to see the end of such a great experience, I guess you could call this the #sevenyearitch - it’s definitely time, and my new role heading up the Lifestyle Channels @lifestyleau at @foxtel has been an absolute whirlwind over the last six months and I know it’s just going to get bigger and better as all of our new shows start rolling out next year. And just quietly, I’m pretty excited at the thought of a whole, uninterrupted, summer with my family for the first time in seven years!!! Thank you to everyone who has watched House Rules over the years - I’ll be watching season 8 along with you next year!!
I have a bit more info here: https://tvblackbox.com.au/page/2019/9/28/more-changes-for-house-rules-as-wendy-moore-leaves
No surprises here… it seemed like the natural progression plan anyway when they announced Durie was joining the show for this years season.
If Seven turns HR into MKR then I will not be watching. The amount of bitching on HR is tolerable, but not if it is all bitching and zero renovation.
Because then it will be The Block.
House rules is better than the block, the renovations are amazing !
I’m not surprise Durie will stay on as a judge or host. I expect a co-female host too.
