You’re probably right.

The 3-4 weeks the show took off air due to Seven airing The Latest in its place has probably come back to bite them, even with all the triple ep Thursday’s in the last few weeks.

They must have had some confidence that the three episodes shown tonight were exciting enough/will rate well to be the “finale”, instead of continuing until next Wednesday night before the Big Bash starts and thinking that the episode that would be shown then might not be as exciting as the episode they showed tonight, hence they finished it off with tonight’s episode.

It definitely didn’t feel like that it was meant to be the finale. I haven’t watched this show that much the last 2-3 years but prior to that was an avid viewer back to my early teens. A friend of mine convinced me to watch last night because she thought Heath was coming back but that didn’t eventuate. It was the most uneventful finale that I can remember.

Home and Away: Australia’s #1 drama

With its incredible 33ʳᾈ season wrapping up last night, Home and Away has once again proven it has the heart of the nation by outrating all other Australian dramas on commercial TV this year.

Across its 2020 season, Home and Away delivered an average total video audience of 1,119,000.
Broadcast averaged 989,000 including 610,000 in the capital cities and BVOD audience of 130,000.

On 7plus (Australia’s #1 commercial free to air BVOD platform), Home and Away has consistently delivered significant audiences across 2020, with over 560 million minutes of the drama streamed on VOD across the year.

Seven’s Network Director of Programming, Angus Ross, said the success of the much-loved series this year was even more remarkable than normal, given the impact of COVID-19 on production.

“Home and Away’s success this year is a fantastic result given the nine-week production shutdown in March, April and May and the ongoing production challenges since then. The show’s amazing team ensured it didn’t miss a beat on air.

“To close out the year as the #1 Australian drama given the circumstances is a well- deserved achievement for everyone involved in its production. It’s easy to see why all of us at Seven love Home and Away, and it is great to once again see that love reflected in our audience numbers.”

Seven’s Network Sales Director, Natalie Harvey, said: “The place of Home and Away at 7.00pm, four nights a week, demonstrates its key role in our content spine. It keeps viewers engaged with Seven, helping deliver great results for our partners out of 7NEWS and into our 7.30pm programming.

“Home and Away’s success on 7plus further amplifies its importance to our schedule and gives partners another great way to reach the dedicated and passionate audience that the show has built over the past 33 seasons.”

Home and Away will return to Channel 7 and 7plus for its 34ᵗʰ season in early 2021.

Home and Away in 2020:
• #1 Australian drama series on commercial free-to-air TV
• Total video audience over 1.1 million
• #1 streamed drama series on BVOD
• Reached over 1 million people on 7plus

• BVOD audience grew 13% on 2019 season
• 1.9 million total social followers
• 229 million social impressions
• 20 million total social engagements
• 47.8 million social video views

Australia’s #1 drama returns in 2021

Time to escape to Summer Bay

After the gripping season final last night, Home and Away will explore new beginnings, second chances, love, betrayal and revenge in 2021.

Joining the established ensemble cast is Bridie Carter ( McLeod’s Daughters ) and Luke Arnold ( INXS: Never Tear Us Apart ), plus the return of a River Boy.

Bridie Carter stars as Susie McAllister, a real estate agent from Western Australia looking to make a fresh start. Susie quickly establishes herself as a charming, intelligent and attractive out-of-towner who catches the eye of newly single John Palmer (Shane Withington).

Luke Arnold joins as Lewis Hayes, a nurse who went to university with Jasmine (Sam Frost). In the new season, a shared connection between the pair will see sparks fly.

After revealing that he’d like to stay in the bay, Christian (Ditch Davey) asks Tori (Penny McNamee) a life-changing question that will see their relationship progress from a spark to a flame.

Home and Away returns to Channel 7 and 7plus for its 34th season in early 2021.

Keen to hear people’s thoughts:

If Seven hypothetically moved Home and Away to 7TWO weeknights at 7pm in favour of airing something else on the main channel at 7pm, does the fact that it will be shown in standard definition deter you from watching it live on television and you’ll just wait until it’s uploaded onto 7plus?

Personally myself, I have about a 50-50 split these days for watching Home and Away (on the main channel in HD, that is) live on television, or watching it on 7plus later on.

I doubt they’ll move it. However if they did, moving primetime to 7pm would be the best option. 7-9 primetime then The Latest @ 9.

A tinsy little pandemic?

I wonder if the COVID-19 outbreak at Sydney’s Northern Beaches will affect filming for Home and Away, if it is not already on Christmas production break. Palm Beach, where many outdoor shoots are taken, is in the region.

I read somewhere that this is their last week filming before holidays, so perhaps they’ve called tomorrow’s filming off and will just shoot it in the new year?

They finished up yesterday at Palm Beach.
