While true, I think it’s quite reasonable to question the future of Hughesy, Ed & Erin when their ratings are on-par with the figures 2DayFM’s last high profile breakfast threesome received during their final survey on air before being axed for poor ratings.
Even taking into consideration the current market climate, 2.4% is just not an acceptable figure for a breakfast show on a major Sydney commercial FM station with the backing of a national(ish) network!
I think Dan and Maz. I voted Hughesy, Ed and Erin for 2022 breakfast, but I think it should be Maz & Gawndy for Sydney only breakfast. If they’re going to persist with a show for the next three years, it should be them
Dan and Maz were undoubtedly the best team out of the hogwash that is 2DayFM breakfast in recent years but again the incompetent SCA management screwed them over.
If Dan and Maz were ever an option they would need new management who would support and put everything behind them.
Hughesy, Ed & Erin aren’t all that bad, but it’s not a breakfast show you would get excited over, unlike say Dan or Maz, or even Gawndy and Maz, people you are relatable.
Firstly, 2DayFM need to establish their identity again. It’s not like the audience drops off at bteakfast - they’re share is low across the board, so its not just a breakfast problem. They’ve flip-flopped around with formats so much over the years it’s hard to know who they’re targetting.
HotAC is probably the best fit for being different, filling the gap between Nova and Smooth but skewing slightly older than Kiis. Lots of 90s and 00s bangers, big 80s tracks and a dash of innoffensive contemporary tracks. And widen up that library.
Then a breakfast show to fit that demo, which H,E&E may just do if they overall sound is improved.
It also helps that Ash London Live has finished up, meaning there isn’t that youthful/new music slant from 7pm.
Just following on from the what to do with 2Day FM discussion in the metro rating thread, besides dance music which I and others have championed, how about an LGBT station like iHeartradio’s Pride Radio or Audacy’s Channel Q in the States?
A lot of DINK households with disposable incomes that would surely be of appeal to advertisers.
