From memory 10 did something similar not sure if was only the Late Evening News. There was a vid on YouTube a while back not sure if it still up.

Yesterday marked 55 years since the West Gate Bridge disaster in Melbourne. On October 15, 1970, a 112m long span of the bridge, which was under construction, collapsed and fell to the ground, killing 35 people.

I found this news film on YouTube.

One of my uncles was working in the Melbourne CBD when this happened. He described it as a “very loud crashing sound reverberating through the city”.

Yes, he was the main fill in for several years.

Also filled in for the Adelaide bulletin too (from Melbourne) after they stopped sending Adelaide reporters over.

Interestingly Adelaide was the only station (I think) where the male presenter wasn’t automatically the senior… ie you can see there Max was introduced first ahead of Jennifer, but when doing Adelaide, Kelly would be top billed.

What seems to be an update after bombing started on Iraq in March 2003.

This week marks 20 years since the Beaconsfield mine collapse in Tasmania in 2006.

Brant Webb recalls the experience of being trapped in the mine and what happened after his rescue.

In an interview with Woman’s Day, Karen Pendrey recalls her involvement in the rescue of Todd Russell and Brant Webb as a paramedic.

I remember 9 used a dark set for the war coverage, Today, 4pm special, ACA and Sunday all came from it for a little while. It was an old Today show desk with just a black bakcarground and that logo.

I wonder what time that update aired if it’s promotion 4am coverage.
