HD Broadcasting

It’s like how you can change the channel on your iq via the MyFoxtel app but only to a Foxtel channel, and not to a free to air.
Unsubtle, but it’s their app, so they can do what they want

Not sure if you can anymore but it was an option when I had a cable iQ2 but never on the iQ4.

that probaby means no chance of it staying HD after the games which is a shame!

I wonder why they rolled it back, if they’ve decided that too many people would be unhappy not being able to watch an MPEG4-only 7mate HD with their very old TV

They could just simulcast AFL matches on 7TWO if it’s that much of a concern for them.

Bu then they would lose the audience for 7Two programming which is huge in regional areas.

True, and I guess they’re less likely to be MPEG-4 ready than the younger/sports 7mate demo, in the case where 7TWO/7mateHD schedules would swap over.

Maybe sacrifice ishoptv for 6 months to accommodate 7mate SD MPEG-2 and run constant on-screen messaging?

Has Prime fully flipped the switch to HD for 7mate now?

Not here in Newcastle / Northern NSW either.

It’s pretty bad considering the AUS vs ARG men’s football was on tonight.

Do we think they’ll do it in the next few days, or not for months after the Olympic Games?

The TV Blackbox article about 7mate in Prime areas stated that the channel would switch to HD “in time for the Olympic Games in Tokyo”. As Seven and Prime have been advertising that the Olympics start on 23 July, maybe the switch will occur today or tomorrow?

Yes disappointing it wasn’t in time for AUS vs ARG, which now could be a defining moment in Australian Olympic history.

I checked out the 7+ app on my Apple TV last night and was pleasantly surprised to see 1080p50 streams available. This is the first time I’ve seen a 50 fps stream on a FTA app. Usually only reserved for the premium sport apps, ie. Kayo, Optus Sport, Stan Sport.

The raw streams for other events not on 7 or 7mate are even in 60 fps. I guess because Japan is traditionally an NTSC 60Hz country, so that’s also a huge win with no unnecessary scan conversion to 50Hz when it’s not being broadcast on 7 or 7mate.

Well done Seven on this. Hopefully the app holds up and performs well over the coming weeks.
