I’m told 7TwoHd will move to ch72 in regional Queensland in next few weeks

Will 7mate HD remain on 74 or move to 73?

Thanks. I’m staying at my parents place and missed the changes. I knew 7two was in HD but hadn’t noticed 7mate had disappeared off their tv.

Unless they have a clever jingle like “7 flix on 76”…

As mentioned in the Prime7 and GWN7 thread, 7mate has gone HD today via Prime.

Glad to finally see Simpsons in HD on FTA, with it being SD nearly the whole time it was on air.

In addition, regional Queensland can receive 7TWO in 1080i.

Despite not been really free to air per day but satellite

10 Bold and the ABC HD channels on VAST have been looking quite good of late

Further to what you have added, I have also noticed when using my 4K Google TV 9HD and GEM also have a DD+ 5.1 Soundtrack, while GO, 9LIFE and RUSH have a PCM 2.0 Soundtrack tho this is most likely Being re-encoded from AAC or something similar.

Not sure if I missed something (entirely possible) but I noticed when flicking channels tonight that the new 7bravo channel is in HD.

Surely this is time for 7 to make the switch to 7Two and 7Flix in HD as well.

Correct. Ten and Nine HD channels do Dolby Digital AC3 5.1. Whereas Seven is Dolby Digital AC3 but only 2.0 (Stereo).

ABC and SBS don’t do any Dolby Digital AC3 sound at all, not even 2.0. It’s all in MPEG-1 layer 2 stereo even on their HD channels. I wonder if there is a requirement for commercial networks to use Dolby Digital AC3 on their HD channels but ABC/SBS are exempt.

You’ll find that most SD channels still use MPEG-1 layer 2 stereo sound. Some of the MPEG-4 SD channels use AAC stereo. Your Yamaha Receiver there will typically see this as PCM (uncompressed) as the TV decodes the MPEG or AAC audio before sending it over HDMI ARC.

Yes it has been seen, see the Digital TV Technical Discussion or the 7Bravo threads. In RQLD it is even better with 7, 7two, 7mate and 7Bravo in HD only, and 7flix the only channel in SD. TBH I think 7two might become HD in 2023, as I think @RFBurns said it was only the first phase of becoming MPEG-4 only.

On the topic of WIN now moving to MPEG4 fully, has there been any word on Seven’s roll-out? We had the 7Bravo launch and apparently 7two was meant to follow too.

Is GEM in Canberra going to become HD anytime soon (before the Ashes)?

July apparently.

Hearing a bunch of Ch9 channels are going to HD tomorrow, will that apply to Canberra?

Are you talking about via WIN? Because 9Gem is moving to MPEG4 tomorrow (at least confirmed in regional QLD)

I’m not sure if Canberra qualifies under the WIN umbrella?

Yes it does
