Russel is back for episode 2 this week.
Noticed the discussion around Virgin’s latest ad, was on an episode where Todd Sampson (on the Qantas board) was absent.
Interesting timing.
I enjoyed the new panel member last night. She was great.
The whole panel was great last night. Would have swapped Russell for Karen to make it even better!
Adam Ferrier’s dead pan delivery is an absolute crack up.

Gruen Nation returns for two episodes before a further 10 episodes of Gruen S17, all at a new time of 8pm Wednesdays.
Gruen Nation Wednesday 30 April / May 7 at 8pm on ABC.
Gruen Season 17 ten new episodes from Wednesday 14 May.
The ABC is pleased to announce Gruen Nation and Gruen will return back-to-back from Wednesday 30 April at 8pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
It’s election season, politicians are trying to sell you the world and the team at Gruen isn’t about to buy it. Across two episodes, Gruen Nation will take a big swing at the election, showing you how the democracy sausage is made, all the sizzle and none of the meat.
Hosted by Wil Anderson and a panel of election advertising experts, we are going to put publicity over policy, marketing over mass appeal, and unbox the ballot to bring you voting without preferences and analysis that would make Antony green with envy.
If you want to be in poll position for all manner of electoral dysfunction then tune into Gruen Nation and take a seat before someone snags them all.
Following two episodes of Gruen Nation, Gruen will return for season 17 with ten new episodes from Wednesday 14 May.

Advertising has changed for the worse. Gruen has changed for the better. Join Wil Anderson, Todd Sampson, Russel Howcroft and a panel of experts for a new and improved look at a world of advertising which isn’t new nor improved, at the new time of 8pm.
With every inch of our life being invaded by brands demanding our money, our attention, and a five- star review, thank goodness for Gruen.
That’s right, like all good advertisers we are providing the solution for a problem only we have noticed. Plus, we have a product to sell that’s almost entirely like the old product but a little bit different and so we’re going to tell you that it’s both new and improved, which is a contradiction in terms so try not to think about it too much.
Recorded part one of Gruen Nation last night and watched it tonight. It was a quite funny analysis of campaign ads (both TV and social media) by the political parties. It even included a clip involving celebrities such as Osher Gunsberg, Joel Creasey, Julia Morris and Georgie Parker, telling politicians to shut up.
Have you never watched Gruen before?
I have watched Gruen before. On this occasion though, the panel spent more time on the Liberal campaign ads, especially that rap song.
They usually have ad agencies compete to create themed ads but the show’s writers have created their own ads before too.
Gruen Nation
Wednesday 7 May (Final)
Tonight on Gruen Nation, we ask what ads worked this election, what ads didn’t and are attack ads obsolete? Wil, Todd and Russel are joined by Hannah Ferguson, Christopher Pyne and Fiona Scott.
I didn’t find Gruen Nation up to the usual standard last night. The panel selection seemed off and quite irritating apart from the regulars of Todd and Russell.
Highlight was Todd’s t-shirt
Yeah. Christopher Pyne was an insufferable prat and Fiona Scott was knowledgeable but too serious.
They should have just had the same panel as last week as a follow-up after the election. Toby Ralph and Annie O’Rourke provided laughs last week.
Episode1:
We look at the ad that made you scream ‘crikey’ and ask if the new Bankwest ads are the Bankworst. Plus our first ever audience suggested pitch. Wil, Todd and Russel are joined by Karen Ferry and Camey O’Keefe.
They really are awful.
Wednesday 21 May 8:00PM
Tonight on Gruen, we solve the mystery of the new KFC logo, join the latest collectable craze and
get high… on running. Wil, Todd and Russel are joined by Renata Yannoulis and Lauren Zonfrillo.
