Wednesday 21 June 8.30pm

The algorithm recommends Australia’s favourite and only show about advertising, Gruen. Back for its 15th season, Wil Anderson and a panel of advertising know-it-alls are here to stop you from buying under the influence.

Oh, great. Here comes another ad. You can’t go anywhere without being bombarded with ads these days. Ads are in the algorithm, on the airwaves, on billboards, on buses, and buildings, on cars, clothes and even our coffee. Speaking of the ABCs and advertising, did you know that this very paragraph contains an ad for Gruen, Australia’s most beloved and only show about advertising, which is returning for an unprecedented 15th season.

Wil Anderson will be joined by television’s best panel of advertising know-it-alls, including Russel Howcroft, Todd Sampson, Karen Ferry, Dee Madigan, and Christina Aventi, plus many more favourites. Collect them all!
Like the Big Banks, we’re here for you. Like insurance companies, we get you. If TikTok made you buy it, we’ll make you return it. Stop acting under the influence and start watching a brand new season of Gruen.

Gruen - the multi-award winning, multi-award losing, multi-award snubbed tribute to truth in advertising - is back for your viewing pleasure, whether it’s on ABC TV, ABC iview, or as most shows are seen these days, illegally downloaded, edited into out-of-context chunks, and uploaded onto TikTok to help someone sell vintage t-shirts and sunset lamps.

Production credit: A CJZ and ABC co-production. Executive producers: Nick Murray, Wil Anderson and Polly Connolly. ABC Executive Producer Rachel Millar.

The panel for tonight’s season premiere: Todd Sampson, Karen Ferry, Dee Madigan and Christina Aventi.

Russel Howcroft is in London this week co-hosting 3AW breakfast.

I think they had all the best panellists tonight. Hope to see more of all of them this season. The sound was a bit rough tonight. Not sure if it was technical problems or something to do with where the microphones were attached on their shirts but they sounded a bit muffled sometimes.

Wasn’t sure if this was just me or the episode itself. Glad it wasn’t just me. Great episode all around tonight nonetheless!

GRUEN Season 16

From Wednesday 15 May 8:30pm

The world’s gone ad, but the algorithm has delivered a brand new season of Gruen. Returning for an unprecedented and ill-advised 16th season, Wil Anderson and a panel of know-it-alls will pull you out from under the influence.

The whole world has gone ad. Brands have made their way into our homes, onto our wrists, on our screens, on our second screens, and on the third screen we look at because our attention span has been destroyed by the first two screens.

We’re walking the streets under the influence of influencers, we’re targeted by marketing and we’re slowly transforming into brands ourselves. We’re living in an ad, ad, ad, world. But wait - like all good advertising spiels, we’ve come up with an angle, and now we’re going to sell you on a solution:
Gruen is returning for a record-breaking 16th season.*

Australia’s most beloved (and only) show about advertising, is back and broadcasting to your television, laptop, phone, tablet, watch, and portable headset. Wil Anderson is joined by television’s best panel of advertising experts including Russel Howcroft, Todd Sampson, Dee Madigan, Karen Ferry, Christina Aventi, Camey O’Keefe and many more. Like and subscribe to be the first to receive exclusive bonus panellists.**

Members of the Gruen Loyalty Program will be rewarded with a new season featuring a hilarious and deeply unsettling look into the world of advertising. By watching, you can rack up exclusive Gruen Points™ that will not lower your fuel costs, won’t give you access to exclusive offers, and definitely won’t unlock any bonus features. But it will show you how we’re all being manipulated by the world of marketing, or your money back.

Gruen, the multi-award winning, multi-award losing, multi-award snubbed, multi-grudge holding tenement to truth, is coming back to your ABC TV, ABC iview, and in fifteen second snippets illegally downloaded by a bot-farm and uploaded to TikTok to play alongside a video of someone cutting up a bar of soap for some reason
because that’s the only way we can make a generation whose brains have been completely fried by social media pay attention now.

* The record: Most seasons of Gruen produced.
