Always good to hear Captain Sensible.

Now that’s a classic from 22 years gone by! Still love it.

“Little L” is also a good one.

And ‘Cosmic Girl’. I like that one too.

That’s a good one too.

Temptation - Heaven 17 on Smooth 80s (from back in the days when Virgin was a charts power house). I also love hearing ABC’s ‘All of my heart’, so refreshing to hear something different to ‘Poison Arrow’ and ‘Look of love’. Songs not out of the ordinary for Smooth 80s but good examples of how it differs from the McDonalds radio of Oldskool 80s and Kiis80s (or whatever ARN variant).

I do miss Smooth 80s on DAB+.

Dragon- Western Girls

IGA in store radio now. They continue to astonish; this one is usually the sole province of Inphase and the Conga Line.

Duran Duran- Planet Earth (12’’)

WS/Gold 101.7 now. I am shocked that they played the extended mix.

They are Totally 80s until New Years, but yes, good to see still!

I don’t think I’ve even heard a 12 inch on Saturday nights for a while now, they used to do that a bit. Pretty much the only time they ever did normally.

Breeze played Led Zeppelin’s All of My Love. Thought I was accidently on Rebel

WSFM the other day played a 12" of One Night in Bangkok and I looked down to see ‘Marlon V’ as the artist, which confused me no end.

Listening to GOLD this morning and heard a 12" of I want a new drug.

There’s two bonuses of playing 12" remixes.

  1. You can still be McDonalds radio playing the same old well-known ‘favorites’, but with the appearance of ‘mixing it up’, being a little different, naughty, risquĂ©, wild

  2. EPs really did enjoy a big comeback in the 80s, so not only do you have a wide catalogue to chose from, but the audience are warm to them as well. (There may even be the occasional wow factor - 'oh I haven’t heard this remix for a couple of hours).

Guessing you were using iHeart? It uses Gracenote to generate station now playing info, not always accurate

Yeah i saw that with Gold104.3 on Christmas Day when iHeart came up with the Spanish name of Culture Club’s “War Song” (La Cancion De Guerra).

And WS just played the 12 inch of Dead Or Alive “You Spin Me Round” as heard on FM! Good to hear some 12 inches.

Funnily enough, that was on one of the EPs I had. I heard the original for the first time on Hauraki back in 84, when I was DXing from the South Island. The announcer made a big thing of the fact the shriek came from Clare Torry (Helen Terry’s replacement), who was responsible for none other than the shriek on Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album. It was definitely more talk less music back then.

Sadly, never seem to hear ‘In too deep’ or ‘Brand new lover’
 both absolute bangers.

Wasn’t it a network-wide jingle?
